Favorite thing: The problem with the New Bridge is that it delivers traffics directly to a highway that knifes directly through the center of Bratislava, dissecting the castle from the rest of the city. Cars, trucks, busses, fumes, horns, destruction. Motor vehicles are bad enough, but the former Communist leaders of Slovakia allowed for the construction of a highway right through the middle of their capital city. It is what you might expect in an American city - and very sad. Now, if I were in charge, this is what I would do: I would tear up the highway altogether, and re-reroute the traffic elsewhere. The bridge would remain open for non-polluting streetcars, but otherwise it would become entirely pedestrianized. I would allow the construction of shops on the bridge - and perhaps even a residences. It could become a great attraction for Slovakia: "Bratislava Bridge" would bring in the tourists. Profits from the real estate development could be used to improve living conditions across the city. The entire project could be capitalized by Western investors, and given the grand title "Bridge of Hope" - or some such thing. Just an idea - but something should be done about the highway, one way or another.
Favorite thing: The New Bridge of Bratislava is certainly very impressive from an engineering point of view. I admire the elegant beauty of its design, the way that it solves its particular topographical requirements with admirable finesse and precision. It's easily one of the most visually striking modern bridges I've seen. I didn't get a chance to visit the tower - doesn't it look like a flying saucer in this view?
Favorite thing: Like all cities which suffered form communism, Bratislava has it's own concrete jungle of apartment blocks that thousands of people live in. This picture was taken from the Castle Hill.
This photo shows the superbly designed toilets in the bar / restaurant at the top of the tower on the new bridge (Novy Most)
The view out the window is across the city towards the housing blocks.
Favorite thing: Not exactly the Blue Danube - but it's not blue in Vienna, either. What it is: a great continental river, comparable to the Mississippi.
The great kind of life...
All my friends see them everyday after their jobs to drink a beer or a cup of wine and talk, talk... Great life
Fondest memory: Crying when I left the country...
Favorite thing: I decided to input this picture even though it´s not perfect. There is a kissing couple in left - I like the people they are in love!
Favorite thing: This is Tower Restaurant! it is slowly turning around...Must be great view from there. I had no chance to go up!
Fondest memory: At the top of the bridge, a 'flying saucer' shaped restaurant/cafe. We went up there and got a pretty nice view of the city.
