The Restaurant Lyra is a local Slovak restaurant which is popular among locals and travellers. The rooms are simply furnished, but the food is tasty and reasonably priced. On tap is the local beer Zlaty Bazant. Restaurant Lyra has a pleasant outside seating area in the historic Old Town. Slovak Pub was recommended by the woman at the tourist office, it was a bit out of the way from the old town but worth the trek to eat with the locals and not a bunch of tourists. The interior was great, huge rooms with mismatched wooden tables of all shapes and sizes, antlers hanging on the walls. There seemed to be a lot of students here and there were all kinds of student priced specials on the menu. Service was fast and while not overly friendly, our server was pleasant enough.
David ordered beef goulash for the umpteenth time on this trip, I'm pretty sure that's the only dish he ordered besides pizza! He said it was good. We split a side order of bryndzove halusky, small dumplings made of potato dough with sheep cheese and topped with chunks of bacon, a very traditional dish and one you really should try if you visit Slovakia. That was very good. I ordered the pirohy filled with meat in a cheese and bacon sauce, they were more like a croquette (fried breading with filling) than what I consider a pierogi (either fried or boiled with a thinner layer of dough and more filling), too much breading for my taste. Total with 1 drink each was 315sk (about $16US). photo from the govinda webpage by Skipka Today my colleagues took me to this little restaurant smelling by all possible spicies and delicious dishes. It is pretty small but the best should be to take daily menu. If you take the normal size and still not satisfied, you can freely add meal to your plate. And sweets... I'm speechless how great they are and what is great, everything is healthy. Menu costs around 98 Sk but you can also share it with a friend or take smaller plate that cost only 70 Sk.
great thing is Apatula (or something like that) it is special additional thing like something roll on with fill, definitely simpl with nuts and something I suppose it is called sabji - meal consists of potatoes, carrots and cabbage. Really delicious. taken from the website by Skipka This is a great place where to take your friends if you are mixed. I mean if some of you are vegetarians and some not. Here you all should eat together. Almost everything we tried was great and I would highly recommend this place. Don't come about 1 pm there is always full. At week ends and afternoons it's better because all officials and workers are at offices or at home. Here in this restaurant you can easily find workers, officials or businessmen eating their lunch. :)
First, order some drinks .. they are mostly non-alcoholic but you can drink alcohol as well. I love the mix drink Pink Panther what is a mixture of ice, grenadine, orange*ananas*grapefruit juicies. Really delicious. Then You can order hummus or roasted potatoes and gorgonzola or spinach dumplings in niva sauce (cheese like rockfort). I am sure whatever you choose you will be satisfied. by Ewingjr98 Cafe Lyra is one of the best values in historic Bratislava. For dinner we had a huge schnitzel (250 SKK) and beef goulash (150 SKK)...many of their main courses come in student portions for almost half the price as other places in town. I also had 3 Zlaty Bazant beers for just 20 SKK each and Laura had 3 Coke Lights for 35 SKK apiece. Our total bill was 565 SKK or 18 USD...for large portions of good food; not bad at all for the center of town. Inside is nothing special, kind of dark...but it does seem to have a good crowd of locals. Eating at the market by Ekaterinburg I walked so much in Bratislava that sitting down for a meal just wasn't possible. At lunchtime I ate from the market stalls on Hlavne Namestie, and apart from problems with dripping mustard , considered it a thoroughly gourmet experience. Main course was an enormous sausage of some sort, served with a bun and copiously dripping mustard. Yum! delicious. Desert was a chocolate crepe and the whole thing was washed down by some hot spicy punch .
I have a sweet tooth and the chocolate crepe really did it for me. The chocolate was generously applied and dripped as messily as the mustard. Obviously I'm no gourmet but if you want tasty and you want quick, this is a perfect menu.
