Okay if chocolate is your thing then this is the place! far too many chocolates to feast upon.. The menu is impressive...... Great coffees and teas also.
The staff are english speakers on the whole, and polite. I had like a kind of chocolate soup with hazelnut.. hmmm. Plus a lovely frappe...

    Chocolate...

Archa is a good place for lunch or dinner. They have a big menu with salads, pasta, vegetarian, meat dishes and some traditional Slovak cuisine. Service is good and the food is fresh. Portions are very filling. You can sit indoors or outside.

I had a Greek salad and pork sauteed with vegetables. The pork dish was a little spicy but it tasted great.

My friend and brother had a steak with blueberry sauce and whipped cream. Interesting combination, but i tried it and it was good.

For dessert, try the Hot Love. It is ice cream with some hot fudge and other toppings. I had to try it just because of the name and it was really good.

If you want to have a nice and not expensive lunch in a cozy atmosphere in the center of Bratislava, you can try Verne. Is located on Hviezdoslavovo square, it is furnished with old fasioned furniture and books from Verne. You feel like you are having a lunch at your grandmother´s. The staff is nice, and the variety of meals is also satisfying. You can find here young people and tourist.

Chicken salad with mango and avocado and Tiramisu is one of the best in the town!!!

Good local food and cheap too. We ordered the platter of meat for two and it was huge!! My husband has a large appetite but even he could not finish it all. It even came with chips! Friendly staff and good beer.

  • When you don´t want to go to a restaurant, just want to quickly grab something, i definitely recommend this tiny place on Zelena street - one little narrow street leading from the Main square. It is a little bit hidden in the courtyard but they have a sign outside so you shouldn´t miss it. They bake their own fresh baguettes (you can choose white or wholegrain) and except of usual ingredients you can also choose from the original selection of various spreads - olive, salmon, cheese, crab fingers, spicy vegetable and so on. They have also some typical slovak pastry. The staff is always very nice. The place is small but there are 4 tables where you can sit and eat. Small baguette is 40 crowns and big one 60, which is really great value for money.I´ve been going to this place for already 6 years, and I have never had a bad experience.

Baguette with niva (slovak blues cheese) spread and crab fingers spread.

Roland cafe is situated on the Main Square in Bratislava. In pleasant enviroment of the cafe you can taste the delicious coffee, coctails and sweets from its own sweetshop. In the summer time you can sit on the big terrace in front of the cafe. This cafe resembles Belgrades "Ruski car" (people from Belgrade and Belgrade visitors should know).

It's a kind of palce where you can have fresh salads, baguettes, cocktails....
They offer fresh fruit and vegetables too.
Salads are offered in in self-service buffet.
Price of salads is cca 19 Sk for 100 grams.

I usually eat only salads but I tasted some shakes as well, my favourite is banana.

I only had one full meal while I was in Bratislava - (sorry, Phil) - but it was a good one. "Kelt" is a fine bistro-style restaurant on the same square where the Opera House is located. (The US Embassy is also there, and I think I remember even seeing a T.G.I.Friday's - alas.) It's a high-standard place, but what attracted me to it was that the menu was entirely in Slovak. I decided to play "menu roulette" and order a dish based entirely on guesswork. Essentially, I had no idea what I was getting. I chose an item that was about halfway down the list of selections, about mid-range in price, and that seemed to combine a wide variety of ingredients - but that's all that I knew about it, and I wanted to appear like a suave traveller, so I ordered it with all the fake bravado I am capable of mustering. Well, it turned out well for me - I had chosen a kind of Slovak shishkabob, different kinds of meats and vegetables skewered on a stick, served with potatoes. Yum! I was also fortunate with the beer I had with my meal. My first pint was a lovely lager, fresh and fizzy and a little bit hoppy, the way I like it. Then an even better pint: a luscious brown ale that was one of the best brews I've sampled in years. Now I want to go back to Slovakia for some more serious beer-tasting. (It doesn't seem that Slovak beers are very widely available in the US - but then I've never very seriously looked for them. Now I will.)

    Staroslovenska krema: Traditional Slovak Restaurant

  • I was wandering through the streets of Bratislava when I noticed a Restaurant sign 'Pig Kill'.. This drew my attention to the Staroslovenska krema restaurant in Michalska Street. The restaurant is located in a basement and has been given a celtic theme. Service was very good, and food was enjoyable.

To start with I had the local garlic soup served in an emptied out loaf of bread, and for my main course i settled for Somova Rolada, which is tender loin of pork filled with smoked pork, cheese, mushrooms and dill sauce then served with local dumplings.. This was then washed down with a beer or two...

Dishes in this restaurant are never prepared from genetically modified products. Clothes and other accessories of the staff come from their own designer shopfloor.
