Archa Pressburg by grkboiler Archa is a good place for lunch or dinner. They have a big menu with salads, pasta, vegetarian, meat dishes and some traditional Slovak cuisine. Service is good and the food is fresh. Portions are very filling. You can sit indoors or outside.
I had a Greek salad and pork sauteed with vegetables. The pork dish was a little spicy but it tasted great. My friend and brother had a steak with blueberry sauce and whipped cream. Interesting combination, but i tried it and it was good. For dessert, try the Hot Love. It is ice cream with some hot fudge and other toppings. I had to try it just because of the name and it was really good. When you don´t want to go to a restaurant, just want to quickly grab something, i definitely recommend this tiny place on Zelena street - one little narrow street leading from the Main square. It is a little bit hidden in the courtyard but they have a sign outside so you shouldn´t miss it. They bake their own fresh baguettes (you can choose white or wholegrain) and except of usual ingredients you can also choose from the original selection of various spreads - olive, salmon, cheese, crab fingers, spicy vegetable and so on. They have also some typical slovak pastry. The staff is always very nice. The place is small but there are 4 tables where you can sit and eat. Small baguette is 40 crowns and big one 60, which is really great value for money.I´ve been going to this place for already 6 years, and I have never had a bad experience.

outdoor dining - and people-watching by yooperprof I only had one full meal while I was in Bratislava - (sorry, Phil) - but it was a good one. "Kelt" is a fine bistro-style restaurant on the same square where the Opera House is located. (The US Embassy is also there, and I think I remember even seeing a T.G.I.Friday's - alas.) It's a high-standard place, but what attracted me to it was that the menu was entirely in Slovak. I decided to play "menu roulette" and order a dish based entirely on guesswork. Essentially, I had no idea what I was getting. I chose an item that was about halfway down the list of selections, about mid-range in price, and that seemed to combine a wide variety of ingredients - but that's all that I knew about it, and I wanted to appear like a suave traveller, so I ordered it with all the fake bravado I am capable of mustering. Well, it turned out well for me - I had chosen a kind of Slovak shishkabob, different kinds of meats and vegetables skewered on a stick, served with potatoes. Yum! I was also fortunate with the beer I had with my meal. My first pint was a lovely lager, fresh and fizzy and a little bit hoppy, the way I like it. Then an even better pint: a luscious brown ale that was one of the best brews I've sampled in years. Now I want to go back to Slovakia for some more serious beer-tasting. (It doesn't seem that Slovak beers are very widely available in the US - but then I've never very seriously looked for them. Now I will.) Leave a Comment

I was wandering through the streets of Bratislava when I noticed a Restaurant sign 'Pig Kill'.. This drew my attention to the Staroslovenska krema restaurant in Michalska Street. The restaurant is located in a basement and has been given a celtic theme. Service was very good, and food was enjoyable.
To start with I had the local garlic soup served in an emptied out loaf of bread, and for my main course i settled for Somova Rolada, which is tender loin of pork filled with smoked pork, cheese, mushrooms and dill sauce then served with local dumplings.. This was then washed down with a beer or two...
