I walked so much in Bratislava that sitting down for a meal just wasn't possible. At lunchtime I ate from the market stalls on Hlavne Namestie, and apart from problems with dripping mustard , considered it a thoroughly gourmet experience. Main course was an enormous sausage of some sort, served with a bun and copiously dripping mustard. Yum! delicious. Desert was a chocolate crepe and the whole thing was washed down by some hot spicy punch .
Favorite Dish: I have a sweet tooth and the chocolate crepe really did it for me. The chocolate was generously applied and dripped as messily as the mustard. Obviously I'm no gourmet but if you want tasty and you want quick, this is a perfect menu.

The restaurant was located in a cellar, in previous premises of the notorious KGB. It was nice and dark enough with the tile walls; not too trendy and light. There were some memorabilia of the communist era left, like some statues and paintings of Lenin and other powerful communists. I have to admit I expected some more.
The menu (I wanted to see it even if I didn't eat there) was interesting: it was printed on a paper on which there are big red stars. The dishes were named according to different communist issues.
Favorite Dish: I did not eat in the place as I had just had my lunch. KGB opened early in the evening. I tasted some beers there and looked at the memorabilia.

Really small, but intime restaurant with nice atmosphere and kind staff. Portions are quite big and food is good, mainly local dishes. Unfortunately they don't have all the food listed on the menu and you have to wait a while for your food. All in all, not too bad.

The best pizza in town, honestly. If you're with a group of friends go for the big pizza with the 50 cm diameter. It's huge and serves well four. Pasta is also very good here and they have nice wine too. It gets crowded and I wouldn't recomment it for a romantic talk in two. Be sure to book in advance! They also do delivery but it's not that good. For a usual sized pizza count from 4 to 6 USD.
Favorite Dish: Lasagne di Verdure and Minestra di Pomodori

It has a very good name in Bratislava amongst the locals. Very friendly staff, great interior, beautifull atmosphere!!!! But for an upscale restaurant I'm disappointed in the kitchen. The food misses the spark that I want to taste.
i've been here about 3 times, so I gave it a couple of shots.

I really liked this restaurant after all the italian food you can buy in bratislava, I really welcomed the change. The restaurant is behind the Coctail bar and it was previously a big patio. it is obvious they have spent a lot of money on decorating this resto. (the same goes for the coctailbar.
The food was great and value for money (for it's price range of course)
It was about 25 € for my starter, main dish and 2 beers, and this is very expensive if you know that you can eat for about 7 € in a other resto in town. but it is definitly worth it

Stylish Cuban restaurant in beautiful premises near Danube river. Malecon is very popular place, altough more expensive than Havana (my nightlife tip). In many reviews they say that Malecon is seducing you like a beautiful Cuban woman:) Coffee and desserts are delicious, food is fresh, and altough typically cuban not boring. Coctails are obviously great. Staff is very professional and all experience is very authentic and stylish. It´s really hard to find great service like that in Slovakia. The decor of the restaurant is also very original, it has high ceilings and reminds you of 50´s. On Friday and Saturday you can experience live cuban music, during the weekdays it is usually not that full, but the music is great all the time. I definitely recommend this place if you want to experience a little bit of hot cuban rhytms in cold middle european city.
Favorite Dish: fresh fish ceviche, strawberry mojito and coffee with chocolate volcano dessert! Y un poco de salsa:) Que lo disfruten!

Slovak pub is one place you have to visit while in Bratislava. Don´t expect any luxury and top quality service. This is the place fot students (and tourists). The decoration reminds you of most important people and events in Slovak history and with that goes a pint of good cold slovak beer and halušky with bryndza - slovak national food (potato dumplings with sheep cheese - it might have a strange taste for foreigners but I love it!). Except of that you can have typical slovak soups - cabbage soup, bean soup, chicken soup, all kinds of potato dumplings and slovak desserts. Be sure to drink sour milk with halušky! The prices are very reasonable, that´s why it is so popular among students. They even have a student menu for ´students before getting the salary´- bowl of soup and bread with lard and raw onion (yes, we eat that but we don´t recommend to go on date after that)
Favorite Dish: Halušky with bryndza and zakysanka (sour milk)

Newly reconstructed restaurant in the UFO shaped building on the top of the Novy most bridge. For a long time it has been ´last oasis of communist decoration´in Bratislava until 2 years ago when it was newly opened after reconstruction. The view is absolutely amazing, service is professional and coctails great. Obviously you have a ´high alltitude supplement´so you pay almost double charge for everything you order here. You even have to pay for the lift (100 Sk) just to get there. And I have to say the girl selling the tickets wasn´t particularly nice, neither was the staff upstairs. But it´s worth to go there even if you don´t want to eat or drink. On the top of the restaurant is a special terrace with a view of whole Bratislava. This is a great spot because it is located in the very center of the city. You have to have a reservation to the ´restaurant part´. Reservation is not needed fot the cafe part. (These are only 3 tables anyway)
Favorite Dish: I haven´t eaten anything, but coctails and coffee were both very good.

When you don´t want to go to a restaurant, just want to quickly grab something, i definitely recommend this tiny place on Zelena street - one little narrow street leading from the Main square. It is a little bit hidden in the courtyard but they have a sign outside so you shouldn´t miss it. They bake their own fresh baguettes (you can choose white or wholegrain) and except of usual ingredients you can also choose from the original selection of various spreads - olive, salmon, cheese, crab fingers, spicy vegetable and so on. They have also some typical slovak pastry. The staff is always very nice. The place is small but there are 4 tables where you can sit and eat. Small baguette is 40 crowns and big one 60, which is really great value for money.I´ve been going to this place for already 6 years, and I have never had a bad experience.
Favorite Dish: Baguette with niva (slovak blues cheese) spread and crab fingers spread.
