Traditional hare krishna vegeterian restaurant in the center of the town on Obchodná street. The food is always good, a student menu (which is a ´smaller portion´- i can´t stand up after eating it) is 95 Sk. You always get a soup, salad, rice, 2 chutneys and main vegetable dish which is quite spicy but very tasty. On every table is a free water with lemon. You can also buy indian desserts (also very tasty) for 30 sk a piece. the staff is very nice and the atmosphere very friendly. The restaurant is simple, but very clean and it is not allowed to smoke there.
Favorite Dish: I love coconut chutney, but you can´t really choose, because they have just one menu for everybody and they change it everyday.

If you want to have a nice and not expensive lunch in a cozy atmosphere in the center of Bratislava, you can try Verne. Is located on Hviezdoslavovo square, it is furnished with old fasioned furniture and books from Verne. You feel like you are having a lunch at your grandmother´s. The staff is nice, and the variety of meals is also satisfying. You can find here young people and tourist.
Favorite Dish: Chicken salad with mango and avocado and Tiramisu is one of the best in the town!!!

Selection of at least 30 hot chocolates (one cup is 50 crowns) and coffees from Cuba, Guatemala, Brazil and Colombia. (most of the time the coffee is good, but i already experienced a really bad one. Better go for chocolate). Plus a wonderful smell of fresh chocolate and lots of chocolate bonbons (however these are quite expensive). The cafe is on main square, so when you are already feeling cold from standing on the christmas markets and the boiled wine didn´t help, one big cup of thick hot chocolate will do! There is just one drawback - the staff are students and altough they are nice, they are very slow and not very professional.
Favorite Dish: Dark hot chocolate with orange flavour.

This is not a restaurant but a tea room. Over 180 teas from all over the world are served, as well as umpteen different kinds of coffee. The place is located way down in the bowels of the earth - note the entrance door at the bottom of the steps - and there are several different rooms, all furnished differently; some rooms have chairs and tables, others have a low table with cushions arranged around, all on a dais. You kick off your shoes and relax! The young man who runs the place is extremely knowledgeable about tea and serves each one as it is meant to be. e.g. one of our party had green tea with chrysamthemum and it was served exactly as they do it in China. The teapots and cups, bowls are appropriate to whatever tea one has chosen. There is absolutely no rush and one could spend a whole afternoon there. For two different teas (amounting to about four cups each) the total bill came to £1.50. There are newspapers and magazines to read, as well as various board and cards games.

At the end of a budget holiday, the two of us decided to have a good meal out and blow the expense. We had two starters and two mains and the total bill, including a bottle of wine, service charge and tips came to less than £21. The service was attentive but not over the top. The restaurant is casual but serves excellent food. When we were there they had a "duck feast" menu and we chose our mains from that. The duck was absolutely superb. We had venison pate with cranberries to start with - wonderful! The only negative is that the lighting could have been a little more atmospheric.

We had an excellent meal here - two courses each and a bottle of wine and the cost in total, including tip, was SK1200 - that's less than £22. The portions are generous, the food is local and well-presented and service is good. My only negastive is that I felt that the lighting was a bit too bright. The decor is "gypsy-ish" without being over the top.
Favorite Dish: We had venison pate, and then duck breast. As that is the only time we have eaten in this restaurant I can't say it is a favourite BUT it was all excellent.

This is a very nice restaurant built in a family house and decorated in tradiitonal Slovak manner. It's best to visit in autumn when it's peak season for roast geese and duck. You need to make a reservation a few days earlier as it is booked by company parties or family gatherings and also the duck or goose needs to be prepared a few days in advance. It is then served with special pancakes and goose liver, as well as cabbage and home wine. Veyr delicious but not for those on a diet :-)
They also have many different delicious traditional dishes. The restaurant is less expensive than those in town but for the roast goose menu count on around 1 500 crowns per person.
Favorite Dish: Roast goose with pancakes (lokse in Slovak) with liver.

This is a lovely place just opposite the Slovak philharmonic building, near the river bank. They do wondeful coctails and very good food, e.g. excellent Ceasar salad with prawns. They have seperate places for dining and drinking although still in the same room. It does get very crowded at evenings so reservations are a must. As for the crowd expect stylish dressed Slovak "celebrities", young female wannabies and wealthy men looking for fun. Otherwise a nice place to start the evening with friends.
Favorite Dish: Ceasar salad with prawns

This is the best place for pancakes in town. Although it doesn't have a veyr nice place to sit in they make the best pancakes ever, so I suggest buying them and heading out to a neraby park or take them to where your staying. You place your order at a counter and although it does take some time for them to be done it's worth waiting.
Favorite Dish: Pancakes with coconut filling or with banana and chocolate - around 20 crowns each. They also do non-sweet versions.

Primi is a very chamring restaurant right under Michalska veza tower. They have excellent outdoor seating in the summer and a very ambient setting inside. A resident DJ plays for listening on Friday and Saturday evenings. They do wonderful pizza and a lot of other different meals ranging from Italian cuisine to steaks. Coctails are well worth the try too. The waiters speak English but the kitchen is a bit slow sometimes. Reservations suggested.
Favorite Dish: Antipasti - baked tomatoes with cheese and garlic served with Italian bread.
