the flag by Skipka As you can see more of the Slavic nations have similar flags because in general these three colors are typical in the symbolics of Slavs. The national flag of the Slovak Republic is composed of three horizontal stripes - white, blue and red (with white at the top, followed by blue and red). In the front section of the national flag is the national emblem of the Slovak Republic. Three colors symbolize innocence, hope and heart. The emblem itself represents the byzantinian cruise of Konstantin and Methodius and three hills represents mountains Tatra, Matra and Fatra. Leave a Comment

peter dvorsky by Skipka Peter Dvorsky is the world famous opera singer and he represents his country on the best way. In Slovakia we really love him not just because he is an excellent opera singer but he is also excellent person. He is interested in many areas of social life and make concerts for humanitarian purposes to help people in needs. He is a leader of the Foundation called Harmony that helps to children in general. However, he is not extravagant superstar with tons of scandals but settled person with a happy family. It isn't that normal among stars :) don't u think? Leave a Comment

trnava by Skipka This little town just around 70.000 souls in it :) is called Slovak Rome here. There is the highest concentration of churches and it is also the first royal town in Slovakia. There used to be a seat of Estergom Arcibishop when there was problems with Turks in 17ct. Nowadays all inhabitants of this cute town are learning French because there will be a great factory of automobiles Peugeot :) Trnava is famous for its festival DOBROFEST what is the folk festival and dobro is derived from the musical instrument dobro found in this area. Till this year I really had no idea about it :) but my friend Benjamin told me about it ... See my Trnava page Leave a Comment

by Skipka However, it should look we are pretending something :) there is a strong influence of religion in our lives. Here in Slovakia major religion is Roman-catholics but there are huge communities also of Lutherans. So, I think that no matter who is where we all believe in God or in something other... but no one of us is without belief... Statistics says this : Roman-Catholics (60,4%), Lutherans and Evangelists of the Augsburg Confession (6,2%), Greek-Catholic (3,4%), Calvinists (1,6%), Without denomination (9,8%), Not specified(17,4%) Leave a Comment

moric benovsky by Skipka Since my childhood I know about the King of Madagascar, there was a famous tv serie about him and what you should want more as a child. I was eager for adventurous stories from the past and fights etc.. :) well, someone should say I am a boy :) but not. However, we should consider Moric Benovsky as a great VTer because if he should live now his VT map should be quite colorful. :) So, take a time and read a bit of him ...
Count Moric Benovsky (20.9.1746 Vrbove - 23.5.1786, Madagascar), a typical representative of the period of the Enlightenment, the development of transport and trade, exploration of unknown regions, French colonel, Ruler of Madagascar, and the first Slovak author of a best-seller, was involved in the history of various countries. After being captured while fighting for the independence of Poland, he was deported to Kamchatka, where he organized his escape. His voyage to Macao was the first known voyage from the north-east to the south-east shores of Asia. The King of France entrusted him with an expedition to Madagascar, where he unified part of the island, and the local tribes granted him the title of "King of Kings". Upon his return, he attempted to build a fleet of ships for overseas trade. After this failed, he became a general in the American army, and organized another expedition to Madagascar, where he fell in battle with the French in 1786. His travel memoirs were published in London in 1790, and have so far appeared in at least 20 editions in more than ten languages. For more info click here Leave a Comment
