Adriana Sklenarikova

by Skipka

As I think general tips on a country should cover also people who make a great propagation of it by their job and success here is one of those top Slovaks that for sure know every man on this earth :) the top model and the model of Wonderbra - Adriana Sklenarikova. Not that she is extremely beautiful :) but she has the longest legs on the Earth. :) Well, everyone has the long legs just to reach the ground... ;) However, she is intelligent young woman, already married. Last years she helps to Slovak Red Cross in campaign for learning how to Save life. She is close to this subject, her mother is a doctor and she studied it too (but not finished)...at that time she won the model casting and turned to it.

Peter Dvorsky - King of opera

by Skipka

Peter Dvorsky is the world famous opera singer and he represents his country on the best way. In Slovakia we really love him not just because he is an excellent opera singer but he is also excellent person. He is interested in many areas of social life and make concerts for humanitarian purposes to help people in needs. He is a leader of the Foundation called Harmony that helps to children in general. However, he is not extravagant superstar with tons of scandals but settled person with a happy family. It isn't that normal among stars :) don't u think?

by Skipka

This little town just around 70.000 souls in it :) is called Slovak Rome here. There is the highest concentration of churches and it is also the first royal town in Slovakia. There used to be a seat of Estergom Arcibishop when there was problems with Turks in 17ct. Nowadays all inhabitants of this cute town are learning French because there will be a great factory of automobiles Peugeot :)Trnava is famous for its festival DOBROFEST what is the folk festival and dobro is derived from the musical instrument dobro found in this area. Till this year I really had no idea about it :) but my friend Benjamin told me about it ... See my Trnava page

No tourist information?

by matcrazy1

It was very difficult to find any information on many attractions out off the beaten paths in Slovakia, for example on Vysni Kubin and its attractions: renaissance manor house and Hviezdoslav monument. There were no information signs there and no info (except one sentence) in my travel book on Slovakia (quite new Polish edition: "Praktyczny przewodnik Slowacja" edited by Pascal). And there were no natives around to ask. My conclusion was that just VT maybe a great source of information on Slovakia. But not the only.SLOVAKIA IN INTERNETSlovakia Travel Guide - in English, German and Slovak, great source of info and links on Slovakia: history, regions, spas, maps, castles, caves, mountain, trails, campgrounds, hotels etc.Slovakia.org - Canadian page on Slovakia - culture, history, society, economy, shopping, key phrases in Slovak (audio) etc.Slovak internet portal - in Slovak, internet...

Need more info?

by matcrazy1

IN SLOVAKIATOURIST INFORMATION OFFICESLook for "i" sign that is tourist information offices run by local authorities as I did a few times. They were usually located in centers/downtowns of most county (okres) towns and in larger tourist centers - both towns and villages. They usually offered some free leaflets on the area, paid maps and gave info on accommodations, tourist attractions, gastronomy etc. They usually didn't reserve any accommodations and close early - 5pm or even 4pm :-(((. But I could buy labels for expressways there. Sometimes they offered change money, sending faxes or... logging on VT :-). Their staff usually could speak both English and German.TRAVEL AGENCIESThey can help you in booking accommodations of all kinds (hotels, bungalows, pensions, "chata" etc.), organize skiing trips, horse riding, hunting etc. The largest Slovak travel agency is called SATUR and has...

No borders soon?

by matcrazy1

Ten new countries including Slovak Republic enter European Union on 1 May 2004. The border will surely remain at the same place but there will be no routine border checkup on Slovak border with Poland, Hungary, Austria and Czech. Maybe Slovakia will take EU currency - euro - a few years later. Probably prices will rise up but anyway I am sure they remain much lower for looong time than say in Austria/Germany.What does joining EU mean for visitors to Slovakia? ADVANTAGES (in my dreams :-):Short therm:- no border check-ups on borders with Poland, Hungary, Austria and Czech,- cheaper car and personal insurances (valid for the whole EU),- entry for EU visa holders (no seperate Slovak visa needed),- for EU citizens: much higher amount of goods (cheap!) allowed to export for individual use like for example beer, possibility of buying cheap house/area in Slovakia (without special permissions...
