The oldest Marathon in Europe and the second oldest in the world takes place in Kosice on every first Sunday in October. The history of the so called "Peace Marathon" dates back to 1924.
A statue of a marathon runner which lists all winners can be found at the Square of the Peace Marathon (Namestie Marathonu mieru) just opposite of the East Slovakian Museum.
