Favorite thing: Spis Castle is one of the highlights of Slovakia. It overlooks the town of Spisske Podhradie, which is 15 km east of Levoca. We took the bus from Levoca and as we approached the town we had a grea tview of the castle. It looks stunning on its hilltop location. From the castle there is a lovely view of the surrounding countryside and you can see all the way to the High Tatras in the distance.

Favorite thing: Slovensky Raj (Slovakia Paradise) is a national park near Levoca. We spent a day hiking through the park, doing a loop from Cingov on the park's eastern edge. It was quite an exhausting day as we hiked for 9 hours, with only 2 small stops. When we got back to Cingov we had issed the last bus so we had a further hour-and-a-half hike to the nearest town, Spisska Nova Ves. Despite all the hiking and despite losing my camera in the park, Slovensky Raj was still the highlight of our trip to Slovakia. Some of the hikes are fairly challenging and there is an assortment of chains, ladders and bridges to take you over the trickier parts. There is much more about our hike in the park on my Slovensky Raj page.
