Looking for good Slovakian food, in a clean, friendly atmosphere? We found such a place in Liptovsky Mikulas, and highly recommend it. The food was tasty, and the portions were large...our waiter recommended half portions for a few of our children, and even then, there was too much. The ribs and pork medallions were delicious, and for the truly hungry, try the pigs knuckle. The meat dishes are nicely accompanied with peppers, horseradish, and a hot mustard sauce that really bring out the taste. We found the cabbage soup to have excellent flavor, and the Farmer Bean dish was also well prepared.
Nothing negative...the service was efficient and friendly, and the prices were good. Our waiter spoke English and Polish, so we were able to communicate with him easily. His recommendations were on target. We'll definitely return to this restaurant in the future.

Lots of stuffed animals decorate the walls and staff are in traditional attire. Very friendly and a bit kitsch but if you are a veggie those beady eyes staring at you might put you off your dinner. The food is traditional Slovak - good but a bit heavier than some - lots of rich sauces. If you want some interesting fare (which surely is what travelling is all about) you will find it here. The veg and accompaniements are very good. We have always been full we never got to a pudding !
Favorite Dish: My husband would vote for the garlic soup, I would go for the cabbage soup. We always try both as they differ in each restaurant but are usually excellent. I seem to remember the cabbage soup had lots of sausage and was very filling.

Why bizarre - well when we went to Slovakia for the first time the last place we imagined we would visit was an 'American themed bar'. Having visited the States quite a few times I can honestly say that the food at Route 66 is infinitely better ! In other words it is Slovak food with supposedly American names on the menu. The restaurant is in a large brick building, lots of shiny brass, posters and loud music, trying to look American but not quite getting there. We have eaten there many times and have never been disappointed. The vegetables and salads actually have flavour, steaks are excellent and the beer is as good as it gets but half the price. If you like a quiet romantic ambience this may not be for you , but for fun and friendliness, including child friendliness in LM it really cant be beaten. They have live music although we havent been and lunches are very reasonably priced.
Favorite Dish: We really havent eaten anything that hasnt been good but my sons rave about the chicken noodle soup. We particularly like the canadian needles (chicken Kebabs) and the steaks are excellent but to be honest, it all is. They do cater for veggies and all the salads are excellent.
The boys also adore the milkshakes, very fruity complete with twiddly bits and parasols and unbelieveably cheap compared to the uk.
