I can´t remember the name of each old wooden churchI saw in Slovakia, but I can tell you all are wonderful. No one is similar to the other, all withhis own charm, with his own windows and doors.I think it´s one of my best experiences in Slovakia.Try to spend more than one day in this lovely place!!

If you can get a car, just drive. Or...rent a bike if you are in good shape and take to the road. There are stupendous views just waiting to be discovered. The photos accompanying this tip was taken from a meadow, just off a road in Central Slovakia. The movie Dragonheart (I am a sucker for anything with Sean Connery...and Slovakia as location footage and I am going to love the movie no matter how corny) inspires me to make-up this bit of folklore about the hills in Slovakia...Once upon a time, there were dragons all over the world. Because they were so ferocious looking and because they ate meat, humans feared them. And when humans fear, they kill. The dragon numbers dwindled. The remaining dragons went to Slovakia. They crawled under the velvet green carpet in the central and eastern parts of the country and went to sleep. And they still sleep, waiting for the day when humans learn to...

by seraphim

All of Slovakia is still fairly off the beaten path. There are tourists (at least in the area where I've been), but in reasonable numbers. Even Bratislava is far less touristy than Prague or Budapest. I hope it stays that way, I'd hate to see this magical country spoiled by too many American tourists. So keep it a secret ;)

Pack and walk, climb, suffer from hunger and thirst but try to reach the sumit....Do you remember the feeling of hearing that water, knowing it will be icy and refreshing, it is just what you crave, need...and it seems so ver far away and as if your tired feet aren't taking you closer with each step, left, right, left, right,.......up and up....Nature is so overwhelmingly great in Slovakia that you will want to leave again the very moment you arrive home and haven't yet unpacked, let alone rested your poor feet.
