We didn´t find out until later that Poprad has an airport. We flew via Prague with CSA. For that reason we flew into Kosice and took the train to Poprad.

I arrived in Poprad by train from Kosice & entering Poland by bus but if you have own vehicles, that would be a great idea to explore the vast mountain range....Just don't get lost!

Poprad is a major Transport hub on the main Kosice-Zilina-Bratislava express train line which stops at most notable towns in the East, North and West of the country.
The bus station in Poprad has buses to nearly every place you'd want to go to in Slovakia.
The location is great as well, the City is just at the foot of the High Tatra mountains and there is an electric railway which goes to the ski and hiking resorts. as well as a bus which takes you to the Polish town of Zakopane in 2 hours.
The town of Lecova is closeby as well and accesible by bus. Lecova is well reccomended by many travel guides as a beautiful and interesting place to visit.

The red and white Tatra trains take you up to the villages just under the Tatra mountains. On entering the train you will have to stamp your ticket in the machine on the train. It reminds you doing so in several languages. The conductor will come and check your ticket. Each stop is announced. The latest trains have been built in Switzerland.

We took the train from Kosice to Poprad-Tatry. The fastest ones take about 1,5 hours. Make sure when buying the ticket you tell them which one you will take as the prices vary.

Going to the mountains you have the option to take a bus instead of the Tatra train. Coming back one day to Tatranska Lomnica we used the faster bus instead of the train. Part of the way the bus just run down a straight road which was quite a spectacle when sitting in the front.
The main bus station in Poprad is next to the train station. And behind the bus station (looking from the train station) there is a huge supermarket.
