Slovakia is not very famous...

by gonoszmano

Slovakia is not very famous for it's couisine, but you can have tasty cheap food almost every restaurant.Don't be surprised that you realise, that the dish you ordered was made from frozen material.Sad but true, this is usual in this region.I offer you two places:The SLOVAKIAN RESTAURANT IN TATRANSKÁ LOMNICA next to the railway station and one BY THE NOVA LESNÁ'S TURNOUT of the Poprad-Stary Smokovec road.Unfortunately I don't remember the name, but deer-stew was very good. Although Slovakian couisine isn't famous, they can rightly proud of their BEERS. ZLATY BAZANT is probably the best bottled beer in the World (probably the Carlberg). Also try the Smnédny Mnich, but avoid from Steiger and Stein!

The Koliba at Hotel Willi in Tatranska LomnicaThe Koliba is a traditional Slovak kitchen/restaurant, with an open grill and rustic furniture. There was an excellent Romany band there that night, playing traditional Romany music. Very enjoyable experience, and the service was excellent. Fried Trout, excellent Slovak red wine

Anywhere in Slovakia you can...

Anywhere in Slovakia you can get a good home cooked meal. Stick to the small restaurants. Ask the waitress to recomend a meal. Soups are the speciality!Simple hearty foods. The cuisine varies by region, sometimes only in presentation, but sometimes influenced by years of invasions, and is quite different. Try the local wines too. Halusky and Brindca. A potatoe-pasta with steamed sheep cheese and some bacon.

Wonderful place to drink one of various types of tea. Special atmosphere, sometimes live music in the evening.
