Stary Smokovec Things to Do
There is a tourist information center right in the center of town right at the top of the cluster of buildings by the railway station. While I was there (which was pretty low season) it was staffed by fairly young people. Everyone was quite helpful and they gave out a free map with decent orientation for the hiking trails in the vicinity. They can...more
Stary Smokovec was a good, central place to go if you want to hike in the high tatras. Take the funicular up to Hrebienok and go hiking up farther from there. Stary Smokovec Local Customs
I was riding the bus to the Polish border with some Poles that were vacationing in Stary Smokovec. We got off the bus across from the border, but the Poles went into the little restaurant instead of heading for the border? Why? They mentioned that Slovak beer was very good and they were going to have a beer or two before going home. High praise from the neighbors I suppose
