We only wanted to have a snack, so we ended up at the outside sitting area of the railway station restaurant. The service was a bit slow, ie I had to go inside to order. The place is also very popular with the locals and the menu is in English and German too.

For the toilet you have to ask for a token at the buffet and go to the separate building to the right of the railway station. There you then use the public toilet without paying.

Favorite Dish: I ordered "Halusky" Slovak style for 79.00 SKK. The sausages with mustard and bread were 49.00 SKK. The meal was nothing outstanding, just a plain filling fare.

On our last night in Lomnica we wanted to try somewhere different from our Penzion so we went looking for a restaurant in the town. For such a small town there was a reasonably good choice of places ot eat, most in or around the train station. Our first choice was the place beside the supermarket but there was a 30 minute wait here for a table. We went for a cocktail and returned later but it was still busy so we tried another place we had seen, Restauracia Gazdovskaizba, on the other side of the station.

There was one free table which we took. The menu was typical Slovak. We both tried garlic soup with bread and cheese for starters. It was very tasty and reminded me of French onion soup but, be warned, it leaves a horrible taste on your breath afterwards. For mains Ruth had a pork steak with potato crocettes while I tried the pepper steak.

We had great beers too. Ruth went for a Saris, a well known Slovak beer, while I stuck to what I knew had 1 and a half Pilsner Urquells, my favourite beer. The meal cost about 500 SKK for everything (about 16 Euro).

Our penzion had been recommended as a good spot to eat so we tried on our first night in Lomnica. Prices on the menu were great, Budwar was on tap and there was a lovely fire in the corner (even though it was August) which made for a very cosy atmosphere. The only problem was the quantity of the food. While my chicken breast and Ruth's pork schnitzel were delicious, there just wasn't enough of them and we were still hungry after. The table next to us ordered soup though we hadn't seen this on the menu.

Don't miss this great cafe next to the train station. They serve excellent coffee, far better than we had for breakfast in our hotel and lots of other drinks, even a small selection of beers and cocktails. We visited here a couple of times and were really impressed. Prices are very good. A latte was about 37 SKK while Ruth's White Lady cocktail was about 1.20 pounds.
