AIR: It depends very much on where you live. As there aren't many direct flights to Bratislavas airport you mostly need to an intermediate landing in Prague. Another smart suggestion is to land in Vienna and take a bus or train to Bratislava. Vienna is only 60 km (~36 miles) from the border to Slovakia. It takes 1 1/2 hour at the most.TRAIN: You can book your ticket in every ticket office in Europe and the most common routes are Vienna-Bratislava, Prague-Bratislava and Budapest-Bratislava.BUS: I do not recommend to visit Slovakia by bus as far as you are not a member of some organized trip as it is difficult to find any suitable and fast connection. The standard of trains and busses is quite bad, most of them are old and worn out. It is often fullbooked. The best is to rent a car, so consider this possibility (http://www.bratislava.sk/VITAJTE/POZICOV.HTM). It is a cheap option! In...

By train. For me, going to Trencin from Prague by train was a wonderful experience. The Slovaks in my compartment gave me vodca, wine, water and cigarettes, showed me pictures and were very interested in my Dutch guidebook and Belgian passport, and in me, where I was from and where I was going in general. We communicated in a combination of English, German, Slovak, Spanish and Latin. I'd told them I had to change trains in Puchov and they were nice enough to warn me in time so I could get my bags and stuff. That was my first impression of Slovakia. Needless to say I loved it right away :)Also by train. Beware, Slovak train stations, especially the small ones, are confusing. The timetables are different from those in any other European country I've been to. You'll learn to figure them out eventually. In Bratislava, they did have the kind of timetables I'm used to, but they were also...

Depends on how many time you can spend there!! Going by car is a holiday in its own right, we travelled from The Netherlands by car through Germany, Hungary to Slovakia.Otherwise you go by plane an rent a car there. Public transport is limited and slow. Car and camping grounds are ideal!Get around by car!! When you arrive at the place you want to explore continue on foot: great experience!

I always like public transport, to stay in touch with locals. Waiting at a bus station for an hour can be very interesting. People might want to help you, especially if you try to speak a few words Slovakian!
