The Polish - Slovak border

This is a trap that only a Polish tourist may fall into. When a Pole is looking for accommodation, he or she is likely to say to a Slovak landlady "Szukamy pokoju", which is a perfectly innocent sentence meaning "We are looking for a room." Polish is similar to Slovak and communication between people of the two nationalities is easy and pleasant.
Not in this case though. "Szukamy" in Slovak is a vulgar word for what in English starts with an f. I don't think we are allowed to use such words on VT. And this is exactly what I said when we were looking for accommodation the first time we visited Slovakia. Our prospective landlady grinned at that - we didn't know why - but wasn't shocked - living so close to the border she had heard it many times before. Not everybody has had so much contact with the Poles though, so just try to hold your tongue in time.

Fun Alternatives: Don't make too many assumptions about the similarity of the two languages and bring your dictionary with you.
