Bogojina Things to Do

Prekmurje is absolutely a region where visitors can see from artistic monuments like Plecnik's church and the Romanesque rotunda to archeological finds, etnological curiosities, healthy food and good wine at the turism farm. Nevertheless you'll meet friendly and good people renowned for their hospitality.
White stork is a landmark of Prekmurje. Its nest in the middle of village, is a pride of the village, somehow its binding part.

Another view onto the floating mill on the Mura river. The Mura river, which rises in Austria, flows in Slovenia in a distance of about 70 km. It's the river in Slovenia with saved ecosystem - meadows.

This mill is built on water. The reason for that were often floods, so people decided to abondon building of mills at the river and they build it on two small boats. When the water increased its level the mill went up with her. A magnificaent discovery that solved the problem of water-destroying out.

In former times there used to be 40 floating mills along 20 km of the river, now only one is srill in operation. The mill is at the same time a tourist attraction. The old miller with his tales about ancient times in the mill, is incircled by audience very soon.

Straw plaiting is another handy craft, typical for Prekmurje region. The knowledge of straw plaiting proceedes from mother to daughter. They work out all kinds of vases, chandeliers, baskets, crosses and more and more.

Pottery is still in use for cooking, eating and drinking. It can be found also in the form of decoration and as flowerpots.
The upper dish in the photo, is used for baking pastry - slovene speciality - Potica.

Filovci is the village in Prekmurje, where pottery handicrafts still can be found. We visited a workshop, where one of the rare potters demonstrated how is taking shape - from clay to the final product .

For cycling fans Prekmurje is a paradise. There is a tour very convinient for comprehensing the environment and hospitable people living there. The cycling tour is leading you from Bogojina, where you can visit the famous Church, to the village Filovci, where the art of pottery is still alive. The tour is not steep and passing picturesque villages you can visit a spa - Moravske Toplice.
