    OSTRICHES

    big chickens ? no...they`re ostriches !

Dont be suprised if you see an ostrich here ! there are several ostrich farms around
it seems odd to see a creature from Africa wandering the foothills of the Alps, but ostrich meat is becoming very popular, its low in fat and cholesterol and a great addition to a healthy diet

    Hayrack, Dovje, Slovenia

Typical hayrack to be found in northern Slovenia, many can be found close enough to the road that you don't have to "hike" too far.
When the hay is harvested it is painstakingly strung over the poles and left to dry till needed.
That is Mt.Triglav you can see in the far background.

    Face in the Rock

by sandysmith Written Sep 28, 2002

    can you see the face?

Off a little path near the top of Vrsic pass is this face in the rock - Ajdovska deklica (enlarge pic for better view) - in the wall of Mt Prisank its a natural effect - not carved by man. It can be difficult to spot and many miss it if they don't know where to look. Legend says she helped people across the mountains and the Vršiè pass many, many years ago. Other giant girls were jelous, because people loved Ajda, so they put a curse over her to be forever kept in the silence of the Prisank wall.

    Jasna lake reflection

The Jasna lake - just outside Kranjska Gora. - makes for a pleasant stroll around the small lake here and an idyllic coffee/beer stop at the cafe too. Even better if you get a reflection ;-)

Inside Triglav National Park there is a statue of a giant carabiner with a piton. Marko or Zohara took this pic of me there. Once again, that is Mt. Triglav in the background.

    Perinick Falls, Slovenia

Just 15 minute drive from Dovje is the trailhead to Perinick Falls, a beautiful double falls (one above the other), which has fairly easy access from the lower fall to the upper.
