The castles of Slovenija

by croisbeauty

There are plenty of medieval castles all over Slovenia. Most of them are very good preserved and open for the public visitors. The minor number of the castles is in the poor conditions, however, now under the major reconstruction works. Touring the castles of Slovenija might be an great experience. The Castle of Mokrice is situated on the Ljubljana - Zagreb highway, close to the border with Croatia.

Škofja Loka

by croisbeauty

As far as I am concerned, Škofja Loka is the most beautiful town in Slovenia, and it has the best preserved medieval core among the all Slovenian towns. In fact, Škofja Loka is called "ancient beauty", "gallery in the country" or "the town museum". Škofja Loka is situated very close to Ljubljana, about 20 km, and it is very good choise for a day trip.

Lake resorts

by croisbeauty

Bled and Bohinj are the most famous lake-resorts of Slovenia and the distance in between them is 20km only. The Lake of Bled is more famous and more popular among the tourists. It offers much more facilities then the Lake of Bohinj, which is, however, highly recommended to those who prefer intact natural beauty. Besides, Lake of Bohinj is a part of NP Triglav.

Ljubljana is the capital of Slovenija, the biggest town aswell as the economic and cultural centre of the country. It has about 300.000 inhabitants and you can easilly explore it in just a few days. The main attractions of the city are: Tromostovje and the old core of the town in its surroundings, the old castle town on the hill above the city centre, and the huge Tivoli Park which is situated just about five minutes walk from the city centre.

Something for everyone

by CCW

Slovenia has an incredible variety of scenery. Ljubljana has a castle on a hill, a little river with attractive bridges and lively cafes on both banks, nifty Art Nouveau architecture, Baroque churches, a huge farmers' market, and a surprisingly intimate feel for a city of 300,000. In the north there's the Julian Alps, with spectacular mountain and lake scenery; in the south, the karst country is distinctive and has amazing caves; while the coast has a distinctly Venetian air.

I just loved it all!

by blint

I love everything about this little very European country. Most of all I love how welcoming and familiar it felt. It really was a holiday. I felt refreshed and revitalised when I left. After some holidays you feel like you need a holiday to get over your holiday. Not this time! Getting confused for a Slovane. I live in Spain where I'm easily recognised as a foreigner. I loved the fact I fitted in in Slovenia. Although most slovanians were a lot taller than me! At least the Spanish are short like me!
