Kranjska Gora is associated with reaching the top of mountain with a friend, yet alone. With passion for life and idealism that link people even in silence. With being able to do your thing and think your thoughts freely. That's not always easy for me with someone else. A great feeling of communion with nature, human and physical. I think I'm learning something.I don't remember the name of the summit we climbed, but we took two chairlifts from Kranjska Gora, as high as we could go, then climbed to the needle, 1,600m. Not terribly difficult but you have to hang on to tree roots or rocks a lot. Watch out! Many roots are in soft soil and offer no safe grasp. At the top, it's above the clouds and you are really *in* the sky. You can see all the way to Austria and Italy. We missed the last chairlift down and the descent was long and rather difficult, since there was no trail where the...

I came here without any expectations, mostly to meet a virtual friend of many years. I'm glad I met her, although it was a little awkward. I was with someone who had no connection to us and that may have cramped our style somewhat. But no matter. I met and liked my friend from Ljubljana. We spoke in English. We went for a good lunch together, and my travelmate, who doesn't speak English, told me later "Your friend has a lot of charisma" -- that made me happy. She sure does!I didn't make any earth-shatterings discovery in Ljubljana but I liked the place. I always like finding myself in a city, especially after a few days in a small seaside resort like Piran (which was great but small, you know.) I especially loved going to a very good Mexican restaurant with Slovenian flair on the first night. The food was great and so was the service and we had money to spend, everything was dandy! I...

The battle between 2 biggest breweries in Slovenia is older than Slovenia itself.Brewery Laško is in Štajerska region, Union in capital Ljubljana. Some people prefer Laško, some Union. My favourite is Laško.I can't say why it's just like that.

See as much of this place as possible. There are so many places, each with it's own beautiful terain, lifestyle, and spirit. From the incredible Mountains, the valleys, the cities, and ofcoarse the villages scattered around the whole of Slovenia. I really enjoyed my visit to Slovenia. The many festivals during the summer months, the vinyards, and ofcoarse the friendly people, are just some of the things that hold special memories for me.

There are many, but I was enchanted with Bled. With the castle on the cliff, the church on the island in the lake, and the mountains all around, it was a truly fairy-tale-like place.\\Possibly because I was there in September, there were not hoards of people and I think maybe they do not get too many unpleasant visitors either: everyone was so pleasant. Unlike western Europe where I think they are tired of rude tourists. Go before increasingly more tourists do go and it becomes too built up a nd over-run by tourists.

I spent my 12 days in Slovenia (June 2004) as follows, and recommend this itinerary which gave a great sampling of the diversity this small country has to offer: 3 days Ljubljana3 days Bled3 days Bohinj3 days PiranIt gives you the best of the city life/happening scene, the beautiful Julian Alps, and the Adriatic/coast. Travelling between every place was extremely easy and inexpensive, using the public buses which run very regularly (e.g., Ljubljana to Bled cost about $7 and took around 1+1/2 hours, Ljubljana to Piran cost about $14 and took almost 3 hours.) Bohinj (I stayed in the small town of Ribcev Laz) is idyllic and perfect for hiking, biking, paragliding ($70), and all was easy easy to arrange once you're there. Bled is much more commercial (than Bohinj) but for good reason. I went to Bohinj before Bled, but I would recommend going to Bled first, and then Bohinj. Piran is also...
Piran is supposed to be everyone's favorite little town in Slovenia. Well, not mine. Part of it is probably because of the weather, it rained the whole time I stayed there. Another reason is the crowds. This is probably the crowdiest little town I've ever visited, even in late May.I found the towns in Croatia a lot more interesting than Piran. Visit Slovenia for the mountains and scenery, Croatia if you want sand, sea and cute fishing towns.

Predjama is Slovenia's fairytail castle. It was inhabited with Slovenia's equivalent of Robin Hood, Erazem Lueger who terrorized the local noblemen until he was finally killed while 'going where even the sultans must go'. The tour around the castle is OK, nothing more but it was interesting to imagine what it was like living there under constant siege.

The Vrsic pass connects Kranskja Gora with Bovec in Soca valley. This is a mountain road, open from May to October, and really popular amongst motorists and cyclists. There are quite a few stops to make along the way. The first one is at the blue Jasna lake, not to spectacular but OK. Then there is the Russian Chapel a monument of hundreds of Russian prisoners of war killed there during WWI. The Izvir Soce (Source of Soca river) comes bursting out of a cliff near the main road and there is an alpine botanical garden I didn't visit. Apart from these are numerous other stops to take in the views. The Soca valley is a heaven for all kinds of adventure sports. Unfortunately I had to kind of rush through it because of prior arrangements with accommodation. Don't make the same mistake.
