Planica is a regular trip for myself and a few friends, we meet up at the same hotel with some Norwegians who are in Vikersund club 219, 219 being the hill record at Vikersund. They are a great bunch and they help to make our yearly visit special.
Obviously the ski flying is the main event but we also do some other things on our visits.
If you are lucky like we were on this occasion you can go cross country skiing.

    Planica

Is the alpine valley close to other two country borders; italian and austrian. It is mostly known or I should say famous for its ski flying competition in the world cup. As the biggest jumping hill it has an honour (with the jumper, of course) to hold the ski flying world record .

    Walk around

Kranjska Gora is well atended but still peacful little town in beautiful Triglav National Park.
It has a nice alpine look with charming houses, lovely greenery and, of course, a breathtaking views at Alp Mountines.
For me, as I come from mediteranian coast, it had a sedative like effect. I felt like all the stress acumulated trough the last period was running out of my body. I felt sorry for not being able to stay longer but I surely will go there again and have a decent rest.

The church of the Assumption of Virgin Mary

This is the lovely little church situated in the town center. It exists as long as Kranjska Gora itself. The present aperence is from different periods. Some parts are from 15thc., some from 16th c. and most of it from later period.

    Vrsic road
    1 more image

To get to see it you have to drive up the steep and curvey Vrsic mountain road. But don't hasetate it is not that bad. I don't know how it would be in the winter so if planing the visit in winter time ask is the road is safe for driving. The road goes througout the beautiful nature. We stopped once to admire it and to walk around.

A beautiful place to relax for a while, with a small lake, a great statue of an Ibex (mountain deer) and the background view of the Julian Alps.
