Favorite thing: There are thermal springs in Lasko health resort that are certainly worth visiting. They were already used by Romans and when railroad entered Lasko in 19th century, it became well known thermal waters holiday resort.
Fondest memory: There are two pools with hot water in Lasko health resort, fitness centre, hotel and restaurant, but sauna is what is really worth visiting. There are 4 Finnish saunas, two Turkish and one Roman there, as well as massage baths around. Every day there are programs of whirling hot air at 4, 6 and 8 pm in one of the saunas and it is a must for those who can stand it. But it gets really hot in there, so be careful!

Lasko pivo! (Lasko beer)
Favorite thing: Beer is what Lasko is best known for. Beer has been brewed in Lasko since 1825 when Franz Geyer made small brewery in what is today Hotel Savinja. In 1924 brewery was bought by competitor Union only to be closed in 1927. But new brewery was built in 1938.
Today Lasko brewery controls about 50% ob Slovenian beer market, but with acqusitions like Radenska (mineral water), Jadranska pivovara (Split brewery), Vital and the latest one - Union brewery - it is much more than just a small local brewery. In fact it is one of the biggest companies in the region. It supports many activities in Lasko as well as some sport clubs in Slovenia.
Brevery Lasko is the ugliest building in Lasko and if you decide to visit it be aware that there are some quite unpleasant smells and sounds accompanying beer production, but it certainly can be interesting - check at Lasko tourist board for brewing tours:
Still, it makes great beer which every beer-loving visitor of Slovenia should try!
Leading men of Lasko brewery are the most powerful men in the town and when very patriotic ones when it comes to Lasko, and while under their support many things were made possible, like renovation of the castle and Culture centre, creation of sports hall Tri lilije and many other things which made Lasko very successful town, there are also some not so successful things about it. One of them is invention of God of beer, statue built just recently that reminds of some Scandinavian god sitting on beer tub getting ready to get drunk. Still, it is not the worst statue in the town.

Walking to Smohor
Favorite thing: Walking to Smohor is an easy way to get to know Lasko and surroudings. Walking there you pass small settlements, farms and forests.
Fondest memory: Although walking to Smohor is always a great thing to do, it is certainly the best when there is snow, there. It is unforgettable! It is also nice to make late walk there before New Year because Lasko seen from the mountain in the evening looks like fairy-town.

Smohor and Malic
Favorite thing: The highest peak above Lasko is Malic with 935 m and walking there takes about 150 minutes. There is TV transmitter there. Paragliders are also jumping in vicinity of Malic.
Still, most of the hikers go to Smohor only, place at 780 m, about 100 minutes of waliking from Lasko. Smohor got its name from the St. Mohor church. There is hut also at Smohor which makes it a great starting point for peaks like Malic, Gozdnik, Mrzlica or Kal.
Both places are accessable with car but hiking makes more sense.
On the photo made from Hum hill you can see Malic peak, while Smohor (that is not really the peak) is left of Malic. Below there is Debro, suburb of Lasko.
Fondest memory: Walking to Smohor makes a good and easy hike.
- Hiking and Walking
Favorite thing: Town of Lasko and its landscape is marked with Hum hill. Hum is 585 m high and it is very popular hiking place for people of Laško. Some people go there every day while some visit it just occasionally. It is not very hard to walk up there, although it demands some effort, but after 30 minutes of walking you are rewarded with a great nature and a beautiful view at surrounding places.
Fondest memory: Hum is must see about Lasko!

Favorite thing: They say Lasko castle dates from 12th century. It was hunting hut for Celje counts back, a powerful family that ruled lots of the area until 15th century. Castle was centre of local nobility and court and later it was place where locals sought refuge before Turkish invasions. After Turkish invasions ceased, it was left to decay. Therefore from my childhood I remember Lasko castle as ruins called Stari grad (Old castle) where us kids loved to play and wander around. We have also found secret exit in vicinity, but it was filled up during the cenuries.
In late 1980-es renovations of the castle started, so today it is an expensive restaurant called grad Tabor (castle Tabor) and place where people get married.
Unfortunately one of the slopes near Lasko castle was fenced in and steinbocks and chamois are held there. No need for this!
Fondest memory: Ruins were more romantic, but it is nice to walk around Lasko castle.

- Historical Travel
Favorite thing: Lasko has quite nice old city centre, which is combination of squares Askercev trg, Oroznov trg and Valvazorjev trg and main street in town, Trubarjeva ulica. Main services can be found in the centre, like shops, post office, bank, commune offices as well as some places to have drink and eat. Two most interesting buildings in Lasko centre are Church of St. Martin with beautiful frescos and manor where library and museum are located.
Centre of Lasko lies on the eastern bank of river Savinja while road approaches the town on the western bank. So to enter city centre you have to cross the bridge.
Fondest memory: Wlaking around Lasko is a nice thing to do.
