Winter's tale

by Daja123

Surroundings of my home in wintertimeUntouched whiteness of nature. So unspoiled, like any moment Santa Claus will ride in a sleigh with deers and bells. on the sleigh and with gifts for children, and for us adults too, like in dreamland.

by call_me_rhia

Giuseppe Tartini was born on 8 April 1692 in Piran and died on February 26, 1770 in Padua, Italy, where he spent most of his life. He was a famous violinist and composer, and his statue is now placed right in the middle of Tartini square, the most impressive square in town. In his life he composed over 130 concerti for violin, 2 concerti for flute, 2 concerti for cello and over 170 Sonatas for violin

by Linky_Pinky

The groom has to bring his new wife to the island in the middle of lake bled then carry her all the way up the steps, (hope she's a slim one) for his sake. Or he's built like Arnie. They then go inside the church and ring on the bell know as the bell of wishes this is said to guarantee a happy life together where all their wishes will come true .ahhhhhhh! (that is after he sorts his hernia out)

There's obviously a...

by oja

There's obviously a competition going on between individual guidebooks and prospects on Slovenia about which will stick more flattering attributes like 'friendly', 'hospitable', 'kind', 'proud' etc. on our tribe. As any praise, this has to be taken cum grano salis. Yes, you are likely to meet friendly, hospitable, kind and proud individuals - as well as unfriendly, inhospitable, unkind and - well, overproud ones! What I personally don't like about my people is their envy (considered typically Slovenian) and intolerance towards anybody who's different in any way. Although everybody will eagerly assert that he/she is NOT intolerant, there's a lot left to be improved in reality!

buying a pig

by sourbugger

If you really want to get the affections of a local slovenian girl buy her a pig. Strictly speaking a cute new-born piglet is what you need. When she has had enough of it (not long!) find a local farmer who will take it.

Slovenia's traditional costume

by KiNyA

Yeah that's how it looks like. You won't see people wearing this on streets because nowdays they are used on cultural shows only. So with this clothes always go our national dance... It's nice to see a show like that but you will defenitely not see me wearing this stuff again!!! I find myself terrible wearing it!

Farming

by KiNyA

Now before joining the European Union Slovenia still has high percent of farmers. With joining the EU probably small farms won't be able to live with just few animals so they will be gone. I live on more or less big farm but what I always loved is this (look in the pic!)

Grape Picking in Autumn

by anaiis

Being invited to grape picking? You are probably supposed to bring your own scissors because there is allways shortage on them, but they will understand, if you are a traveller, that you don't carry them around. If you are tall, strong male, you are supposed to carry "brenta", tall wooden tub carried on the shoulders. Everybody will call for you and fill your brenta with grapes. You carry brenta to the wine press (presha). If you pick grapes, make sure you hold it carefully, not to loose any small grape. You should also pick the clean ones that fell in the grass. Do ask before picking what the occasion is and how accurate you must be. That depends also from the wine that should be made from the grapes. If there is some desease, you should ask someone to show you which grapes is affected and not to be used. There is also lunch and a meal involved and its a family gathering. Its very nice,...
