Photo 1. Not far from the possible entrance, stands an oratory with an arched alley. It is dedicated to Sveti Sebastian (Saint Sebastian).
The Saint, wounded with arrows is represented on a medallion, on top of the oratory (photo 2)
Though Logatec had never a city wall, the low tower in the middle of the photo and that stands in Dorenji Logatec looks like an entrance into the city. Though the road oases now on it’s side, it looks like it used to pass under it. That might have been a kind of toll to collect the taxes both on people and on goods entering the city.
Photo 1 and 2: As Cerkev sv. Janeza Evangelista stands on a butte, from the little churchyard; there is an excellent view northwards on Gorenji Logatec.
Photo 3:: this photo shows the view southwards with a few houses scattered along the forest.
Cerkev sv. Janeza Evangelista stands on top of a hill, over Gorenji Logatec. It was first mentioned in 1526, but before, there was a camp or a fort for defense against the Turks invasions. The bell tower is covered with metal sheet. In the morning, it shines like gold! Inside, there are several frescoes (sorry, the church was closed) that are very similar to frescoes in the church Nadlesku, in the parish of Old Market in Ložu, that were dated from 1511.
The church on the right of the photo stands in Gorenji Logatec and is Cerkev Matere božje v Gorenjem Logatcu (church of the Mother of God). It was first mentioned in 1526 but received many alterations in 1697 and 1754. This is how it looks now.
The church on the left and in the background is Cerkev sv. Janeza Evangelista (see next tip)
Logatec has several large farms that are a fine example of the agricultural architecture in the Nostrajnska region. I felt that this one, built in 1791, was interesting. The basement is for living of the family and, on the other side, for the cattle. The first level and the attic are well ventilated and used to collect the crops: hay, corn, etc… On the roof, a series of devices are used to prevent snow from falling in front of the entrance.
Photo 1: Cerkev sv.Nikolaja v Dolenjem Logatcu (church Saint Nicholas from the dolines) stands in Dorenji Logatec (Lower Logatec). It is the Parrochial church. It was built in 1795-1803 on the site of a previous church. It is a mix of classical and Baroque styles. It was recently renewed and extended.
Photo 2 : Saint Nicholas stands on a pedestal in front of the church.
The castle of Logatec stands in Gorenji Logatec (Higher Logatec). It was built around 1580 by Urban Ainkhürn, an administrator form Idrija. It was altered in the second half of the XVIIth for a Renaissance look. In 200, it was under a heavy renovation work.
The castle of Logatec is inside a large park, Grajski Park which offers various sports facilities: tennis, volleyball, basketball, football, badminton or boule and even bow shooting.
