    Ljubljana school days

by hundwalder Updated May 27, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: Very young school children in the Tivoli Park district of Ljubljana take a break from their studies of quantum physics and the most foreign and strange language of them all English, to learn tips about safe roller blading ( in line skating ). Outstanding ! safety helmets, knee pads, and the whole nine yards. When I was a little kinder growing up in the U.S., we used absolutely no safety gear. The direct blows I sustained to my head explain how I got the way I am today.

You have to agree these little folks attend classes in a magnicent looking old school building. The style of architecture is probably Rokoko but I am not sure. The roof contains many solar panels, which are now commonplace around Slovenija.

Fondest memory: The people of Ljubljana are working very hard to make their city one of the most livable and beautiful on the planet. Slovenija is a very progressive and technologically advanced country. It enjoys one of the highest literacy rates in the world. Most of this progress was accomplished over a very short period of time. Experience Slovenija for yourself.

Colonnades Market by the 3 bridges

by markyg Updated Jan 10, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: Go around 9 in the morning to the market area by the 3 bridges. Go into the shops in the building on the river. One can get so many different types of food; meats, cheeses, breads, desserts. Pick out a pastery in the shops and go sit outside at one of the tables in the romanesque building by the market. The waitress will bring you coffee. Many elderly people are there at that time having morning coffee. Afterwards, stroll around the market.

Fondest memory: My fondest memory has to be sitting on the river at dusk in one of the cafes. The music, the wine....

    St Nicholas Cathedral

by croisbeauty Updated Dec 18, 2004

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: "Stolnica" is the local name for the cathedral. The main door, made of bronze, was created in 1996 and is a masterpiece of the contemporary Slovene sculptor Tone Demšar. It represents 1250 years of Christianity in Slovenia.
The interior of the cathedral is richly decorated in Baroque style.

Fondest memory: There are two, very important, remains of the previous church, both on the exterior facade. The first is a Gothic keystone with the head of Christ to the right of the main door, and a mid-15th century Gothic Pieta, which stands in a niche on the southern facade.
