We flew back to London on Easy Jet, one of the no frills inexpensive airlines that operates in Europe. Compared to the Ryan Air nightmare on the way from London to Venice, it was a dream, OK that might be overstating it but the flight was on time, we actually landed where we were supposed to, the baggage limit is 20 kg (5 kg more than Ryan Air), no limit on hand luggage within reason. But it's still no frills, 7.50E per checked bag (15E if you don't prepay online), all drinks and snacks are extra cost, 7.50E for priority boarding. Even with one checked bag each, it was still only 45E ($60US) per person one way, I booked in January for our trip in May. Flights arrive at Stansted, you can book the Stansted Express at a 10% discount on their website. Ljubljana's airport is VERY small, one terminal, a couple of snack shops and one duty free store so if you're looking to have a snack for the plane or buy souvenirs do it before you leave Ljubjlana. EasyJet checks in 2 hours before the flight and the desk closes 30 minutes before departure and I think they are pretty strict on that. 90 minutes should be more than enough time to check in, clear customs and walk to the gate. Ljubljana Airport Brnik is around 27 kms away from Ljubljana city center and is Slovenia's only international airport with scheduled services. Several well-known european carriers like Air France and Malev serve this airport as well some low-cost carriers like Easyjet and Wizz. The largest airline is Slovenian airline Adria Airways which serves a small network of european cities. The airport has the basic facilities like ATM, bank, car rentals, a small shop and restaurants. I am told that there is an ATM in the arrival hall, but I really did not found it while the one in the adjacent departure hall was very easy to find. A viewing platform is open almost during the whole day (on the left hand side of the terminal building). A historical aircraft (Douglas DC-6B) is displayed at this airport, just behind a parking building in front of the terminal and some slovenian-made sailplanes can be seen in the departure hall. To get from the airport to the city: The most expensive way is by taxi, then there are private buses and also public busers. A private bus company works together with Easyjet ensuirng that one of their buses is waiting for passengers upon arrival of their flights. Sometimes, these get even so full that you have to stand. The buses take around 30-35 minutes to Ljubljana city center. The public buses are a little cheaper than that, but they take almost an hour from the airport to the city center. It is bus line number 28 runs every hour. For information about flights to Ljubljana, please check out my transportation tip about low-cost flying to Ljubljana. Flew into Ljubljana from Zurich (Switzerland) via Adria Airways (code-shared with Swiss International Airlines). I believe 2 budget airlines, Easyjet from London Stansted and Wizzair from London Luton and Brussels-Charleroi, fly into Ljubljana. (circa Oct 2006) For Singaporeans, there is no direct flight. You'll have to make your way to Europe first. NATIONAL AIRLINE OF SLOVENIA The National airline of Slovenia is Adria Airways. It flies to a number of European cities and is affiliated to German airline, Lufthansa, and thus is part of the Star Alliance group. Unfortunately, it does not have e-ticketing and does not send physical tickets to Singapore. My experience with them: ..."About 2 hours+ journey. Both sector uses the Bombardier Regional Jet CRJ200. Small plane but the 2-3 crews on both sectors were friendly and the service efficient. Seats were comfortable and the planes in good clean conditions. Light meals were served - generally a roll here or a pie there plus drinks. The inflight magazine is surprisingly rich with information on Slovenian culture and way of life and is one of the best I have read. You board the planes on the tarmac via buses from the gates though and not through connecting bridges"... LJUBLJANA AIRPORT Located at Brnik, Ljubljana Airport is in fact, nearer to the nearest town of Kranj than Ljubljana itself as it is 27km from Ljubljana. Very small compact airport. Hardly looking the part as the "National" airport of Slovenia. Clearing customs is breezy and efficient though, and everybody speaks English. There aren't a lot of shops inside Departure (2 I think, plus a section selling drinks) and certainly no currency exchange booth. Don't come here expecting fantastic shopping while you wait. There were no connecting bridges so everyone board the planes on the tarmac via buses from the gates. Lots of construction going at the moment with plans to expand the airport. My Easyjet aircraft on the way to Ljubljana by Airpunk The longer the distance from your start point to Ljubljana, the more likely it is that you should consider low-cost flying. Easyjet offers daily flights from London/Stansted and Berlin/Schoenefeld to Ljubljana for cheap prices, if booked in advance. I payed 54 Pounds for Stansted-Ljubljana-Stansted in April 2006 and I could even had it for a lower price if I had chosen other days. Sometimes you may consider also flying to Trieste (Italy) with Ryanair and continuing your journey with buses or trains. I haven't tried out that way, but it is also a popular way to get to Ljubljana. Ljubljana's Jože Pučnik Airport (Airport Code: LJU), located 26 km (16 miles) north of downtown Ljubljana, is the only international airport in Slovenia. The hub for Slovenian flag carrier Adria Airways, the airport also receives flights from Air France, Czech Airlines, Easyjet, Finnair, JAT, Malev, Montenegro Airlines, and Turkish Airlines. To get downtown from the airport, you have a number of options. TAXIS are available, but a ride downtown will set you back about EUR 40. CAR RENTALS are available at the airport from 8 different companies, including Hertz, Avis, and Sixt. BUSES also run roughly hourly to Ljubljana, as well as Kranj and other locations in Slovenia. In addition, Adria Airways runs a periodic shuttle between the airport and Ljubljana. Cost for the public bus to/from Ljubljana is EUR 4.10 per person, while the Adria shuttle costs EUR 5. The Adria bus station in Ljubljana is only a short distance from the public bus station.

Brnik airport is by far the biggest Slovenian airport. There are many tourists using it as starting point to visit Slovenia and Ljubljana, especially after Easy Jet chose it as one of its destinations. Brnik is situated abot 25 km to the northwest of Ljubljana. There are hourly busses from Brnik to Ljubljana (or Kranj). Local bus ride between Ljubljana and Brnik takes about 45 minutes, while private bus takes about 30 minutes. Busses from Brnik stop at Ljubljana main bus station, just in front of railway station. Ljubljana can be reached by taxi also - it should cost about 30 EUR. Check details at their web page. Leave a Comment

Print this business card for taxi shuttle service by Paisleypaul From the Airport to Ljubljana centre and back the way...... An 8 seater mini bus took us back for SIT1500 (about UK?4.50) each, the driver handed out business cards on the bus on the way in - you just call him and arrange apick up time, they then send a bus to suit. Simple ! (PS A taxi driver offered to take us to the airport for 8000 Tolarjev while we waited) Finally found that business card I had lost ! Print this out ! Airplane.. by Sweetberry1 By Plane: Ljubljana Airport is only 23km from city. Slovenia's national carrier is Adria Airways which has regular flights to and from most major European cities. The taxi rank is right in front of the terminal. There are also frequent bus connections between Ljubljana Airport and the City of Ljubljana and Kranj. By Train: Ljubljana train station, which is in the city centre, is small despite the amount of connections to other countries in Europe. The main train and bus station is located on Trg Osvobodilne fronte. Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane
