ALWAYS look people in the eye when making a toast. It's very offensive not to do this and I was corrected on it when I was there. In Ireland, we dont look ppl in the eye when making toast - we just like making clinking noises off each others glasses!

Yeah, it´s the same in Germany. It´s a bit unsettling when people manically stare you down while toasting ;) but I got used to it.
