Zlata Ribica: Great Food, Beer, and People Watching
Here's a place with great food and outdoor seating right along the river. If the weather is good, this is definitely a good choice for dinner. Service and food are very good, and while prices are a bit high by Ljubljana standards, the seats you get are worth it.
Favorite Dish: The special when we visited was sea bass with asparagus. I had that, while Sara enjoyed a gnocchi dish with mushrooms.
Union beer is featured on tap. I must say I was impressed.
Gostilna Zlata Ribica: Great Riverside Choice
Very pleasant restaurant. Agree with most of the previous reviews about good food and service.
Favorite Dish: The picture is of a great meat appetizer we had as a group. As my main course I had a whole "whitefish" that was excellent.
Zlata Ribica: Fantastic Local Food and Great Location
Occasionally there are restaurants I visit on my travels that are so good I have to go back for a second time before I leave. This is one of those places, but it was so good I will be making a bee-line for it the moment I set foot back in Ljubljana again. Easily some of the best food I've ever eaten, and with great service and ambience. The location by the river and with a view of the church and bridges from the patio is difficult to beat.
The menu is largely Italian styled Slovenian fare, with plenty of pasta, and dishes to suit meat lovers and vegetarians alike, such as gnocchi with arugula or mushrooms and game goulash. The wine list is extensive, and the waiters knowledgeable and professional; you'd better know how to taste wine properly if you order it. The food is also served immaculately prepared, and looks as good as it tastes. The most amazing thing about it is the price: I paid about 16 euros for a main meal, a shared bottle of wine, and a dessert to die for.
This is definitely the kind of restaurant you'll want to come back to again and again, and also bring your friends.
Gostilna Zlata Ribica: Not just fish
This place has evidently been here a long time and I understand was once the local fish market. You can see the fish over the entrance. It sits just beside the Ljubljanica River which gives its outdoor seating a great view of the river and the lovely church on Preseren Square. There is also a lovely statue in the courtyard just outside.
Favorite Dish: The food is freshly prepared giving it a wonderful taste. We both found the food excellent. My wife had chicken with lemon accompanied by potatoes with cream which she said were "yummy." I had an "English mixed salad" which was very nice - greens, cabbage, corn, beans and a small amount of potatoes. My turkeywith almonds was a really good change of pace and served with some very nice soft dumplings. We also had a "Slovenian merlot" which is the house wine. It was quite good and somewhat like Terano from the region.
Zlata Ribica: Excellent Slovenian cuisine
This restaurant is right on the banks of the Ljubljanica River and offers lovely views from the outdoor patio. The food is excellent, a great array of Slovenian cuisine. As the name of the restaurant means "Golden Fish," it's clear that seafood is a focus, but there are plenty of meat and vegetarian options too. I had a great entree of turkey with almond sauce.
ZLATA RIBICA....: WHERE TO GO FOR FINE FOOD......
This is a place, a tavern which serves authentic home food....
Indoors or outdoors, depending on season and weather conditions but never ever let a ray of sun escape, that would be such a waste.....
Favorite Dish: Yes, for me a fine piece of Turkey.......
The smiling (always smiling ! ) lady in the photo is Tania, who has a gostilno......together with her husband and the help of parents because it is also a GUESTHOUSE in a lovely pocket of green and green in the NW of Slovenia.
She serves menus (among other things) and she has an ECO FARM, so everything is safe and oh, so fresh (no, the turkey didn't move anymore......) and she learned me to appreciate the turkey she prepared for me herself!
She is a fine friend now.....and next time I surely shall visit her again and leave preparing a meal to her.......
Sorry but I gor carried away by memories: in this taverna I again had some Turkey, fine but not so fine as prepared by my friend Tania.
Gostilna Zlata Ribica: loved it!
Gostilna is a place serving Slovene food - as opposed to international, ethnic, or whatever.
I had an excellent outdoor dinner there tonight (23-7-9) more or less just off the plane. It is right by the river, and where everyone walks around on a sunny summer evening. Great for people watching in between courses.
It is well known for good fish, but having suffered airline & airport food all day, I wanted something with more bulk.
Had the pork loin with mushrooms. It's served with gnocci (or something like that) so it certainly did the trick. Had a good €3 salad as starter, and 2 big beers.
€26 all in.
Favorite Dish: Pork loin (well, I've only been once!)
Gostilna Zlata Ribica: A fish in the counter
A nice, riverside restaurant in the very heart of the Old Town, just a stone throw away from Preseren square.
By the way, there's a big fish in the counter. Don't worry it's not real though, its made of some indigenous material, looked really cool.
Favorite Dish: They serve a variety of Slovenian dishes. I had mixed seafoods in a heavenly sauce....hmm....yummy!
Zlata Ribica: Zlata Ribica
The first riverside establishment you'll meet in Old Town, Zlata Ribica has finally cashed in on its prestigious location after long years as one of the proud few pre-capitalist relics on the local bar scene. The interior's been refurbished, the windows frosted, and they've added an extensive menu of Slovenian and Italian fare. There is pleasant outdoor seating in warmer weather, both alongside the river and in a small, shady square. Sitting out front offers one of the best views in town with the Triple Bridge and peachy Franciscan Church to the right and the willowy bank of the Ljubljanica to the left.
Favorite Dish: Inside is a cozy spot to linger over a bowl of homemade soup and wait out a spring shower. The new menu for summer is now available packed with fresh ingredients. Try the tuna-topped salad (tunina v solati) or the green salad with apples (zelenjavna solata z jabolki). These make tasty light meals on their own. The hearty homemade soups are also favorites here: a big bowl of pasta fizol for 600 sit. There are loads of vegetarian choices including gnocchi with arugula or mushrooms (njoki z rukolo, njoki z jurcki). On the meatier side, the grilled lamb (jagenjcek na zaru) and game goulash (divjacinski golas) come highly recommended. Zlata Ribica is a versatile spot: perfect for a fresh and filling meal or a cold beer on a warm evening.
Zlata Ribica: Zlata Ribica
This small restaurant has a great riverside location and outside tables. You will find that the neighbouring countries of Italy, Austria and Hungary all play a part in Slovenian cuisine: I tried the goulash here which was absolutely delicious.
