In the middle of the night when you are returning from the party you have to stop in Tivoli park at Hot horse. You will see people in evening dresses, young people, vagabonds...
Favorite Dish:
Hot Horse burger and Laško beer.
Yep, Sloevenes do like horses. Not just for riding. They are also delicious. And hot horse is one of my favourite meals. Many may have some difficulty because it's a horse meat (many of my friends do) but it's one of the most helathy meat outthere. And a tasty one too. And there is one thing more that makes this place special - you are the one who chooses extras. There are some 10 differnet ones (onions, tomatos, ketchup, mayonnaise, nacho cheese,....). Everything is prepared right there in front of you. That's the reason sometimes you have to be patient. It's interesting that the Hot-Horse in Tivoli park often has the longest lines well over mid-night when party-people go for a early breakfast. And the portion is rather big (most girls manage half of burger).
Favorite Dish:
Horse burger with onions, nacho cheese, ketchup, mayonnaise and tabasco.
The quintessential Slovenian fast food chain....and if you haven't got it right by now, I'll be quite worried....serving horse meat burgers!
The chain started in 1995 and now has 3 branches: Tivoli Park (the original) as well as along Miklosiceva and Trubarjeva Streets.
Popular with the students (as they offer discounts in the form of vouchers), the food is simple. Aside from the unique Horse burger, every other thing else is standard fast food fare: fries, salad, drinks....the works. Great for budget travellers/backpackers.
You can saddled in as many as 4 sauces (mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard among others) and 3 side ingredients (pickled chillies, tomatoes, onions among others) into the burger (and I may add for the benefit of most Asians, a LARGE burger). It won't be long before you'll be neighing over this wallop of a burger, chomping and trying to wipe away sauces and stains from the side of your face at the same time. A most slobbering affair.
Favorite Dish:
The Horse Burger of course!
See link for picture of burger: HOT HORSE BURGER
Stores open 9am-6am, except on Mon when they open at 10am.
This is one of these things that you go for just because it is so out of the ordinary to most visitors, but in all honesty a horse burger is not notably different form anything from McDonald's Burger King or even a supermarket freezer.
Cheap and cheerful ! And licensed !

We were shocked to learn that they really do eat horse meat here. It is not part of our culture and I can't say I would ever try it . Horses have personalities !! Don't they. But it seems quite popular here. The fast food place called Hot Horse sells horse burgers. People who have tried it say it tastes like sort of like steak.
Now, I'm gonna be honest with you. I did't eat here. I have eaten horse burgers before and there's nothing wrong with them but it's something that you eat late at night after many beers and this place was closed every time I passed by here in such a state. I wasn't gonna have one for lunch!
Favorite Dish:
Horse burgers, what else?
I've been to France where they eat horse but never fancied it and when I visited BTC City (large shopping district in eastern Ljubljana) one of the places to eat was this - Hot Horse. So I thought, why not give it a try! And I did and enjoyed it! The meat is quite like a steak and comes in a large burger bun with different sauces and salads just like any other burger. They do set menus but I was told that these are for students only.
Hot Horse is a popular fast food diner suitable after a long night of partying and drinking. mena are especially fond of these place. They obviouslly sell horse burgers. Yes, horse meat.
Favorite Dish:
The most selling is Horse burger, it is like a regular burger with different sauces you can choose by yourself - mayonnaise, mustars, ketchup, nacho cheese, saur krout, onion rings, salad, tomatoes, tabasco, ....
The burger is so huge it should go you running around the city all day long.
Eating such a burger can get mess, cause the sauces are running out... but it is delicious.
I like the meatless version of horse burger. Basically it is ecerything but the meat.
The name says it all 'Hot Horse'. They serve horsemeat. Yep, horsemeat. Surprise, surprise. When we ate there I saw the sign and suggested to Zohara and Tal that we eat there, knowing what to expect while they did not. After digging into the good meal, almost at the end I told them what they were eating, glad to say that nobody even blinked an eye and kept eating.
Favorite Dish:
The steak was great, and the hamburger was okay also. Tried the hotdogs, but the steak was best.
If you're squeamish about the whole idea of eating horsemeat, that's your choice.
But if you're worried about the taste, don't be. If someone told you this was a hamburger, you'd probably believe them.
Not a culinary masterpiece, but it's a convenient stop - and a good bellyful - when you've been walking around all morning and you're tired and hungry.
