The Serbian Orthodox Church on the northwest corner of town is definitely worth a visit. The intricate frescoes on the walls and ceiling are certainly a sight to behold. Do try to be sensitive and remember this is a holy place, as some of the worshipers appear to be less than thrilled with foreign visitors.

    Serbian Orthodox Church

This is Ljubljana only Orthodox Church. It is devoted to St Cyril and Methodius and was built just before 2nd Warld War.
It is beautiful and elegant structure, gorgious in its simplicity. It has tree domes , one large in the middle and two smaller ones on both sides. The gilded crosses are put on the top of each one.

This superbly descorated church was built in 1936 and is dedicated to Saints Cyril and Methodius and is covered from floor to ceiling with very colourful frescoes. I only managed a quick view inside as the guy in charge was locking up for lunch which was a shame but as the inside isn't very large, it doesn't take a long time to see.

    Open: 2-6pm Tue-Sun.

The Serbian Orthodox Church of Ljubljana, dedicated to Saint Cyril and Saint Methodius was erected between 1936 and 1940. Nice to see from the outside, it shows some byzantine influences bith the typical geometrical symetric forms seen on many serbian orthodox churches - simple, but still interesting with its five small towers. The church interior looks very small but is richly decorated with icons and is well kept.

Serbian Orthodox Church viewed from the rear

Serbian Orthodox church rear view and baptistry

Closeup view of the rear three towers of one of the most beautiful churches I have seen anywhere. The architecture of the church is distinctly Serbian, with only a slight Byzantine influence. The domes covering these masterfully designed octagonal towers are works of geometric art. Serbian style columns form each corner of the towers. Similar columns grace the entire church. The church contains many superimposed arches, and there are numerous narrow arches filled with brilliant stained glass windows. The architectural focus of Serbian Orthodox churches is always pleasing geometric designs as opposed to the elaborate ornamentation of many Catholic churches and cathederals.

Don't miss this gem of a church. It is on the way to Tivoli park, so no extra effort is required.

There exist relatively small majority of the Serbs in Ljubljana, who inhabitated the town of Ljubljana only in the first half of the 20th century. The church, consacrated to Saints Ciril and Method, was built around 1930. It looks much bigger from the outside, while its interiors is rather small.
The church is situated next to the entrance in the Park Tivoli, and right opposite to the Modern Gallery.

    Serbian Orthodox church entrance

The Serbian Orthodox church located in a perfect green city near Tivoli Park, in my opinion is the most beautiful church in Ljubljana. The Serbian Orthodox definately know how to build great looking churches. The Serbian Orthodox church in the former Slovene port city of Trieste is the most beautiful church in that city ( see this beauty on my Trieste page ).

The architecture of this church is superb. Smooth geometric shapes blend in perfect harmony. Nothing overdone or glaring about it. No gargoyles or forlorn looking faces trying to escape from a tarnished bronze door. All in a nice park like setting. The interior artwork is excellent. Sorry that I have no good interior photos. I would guess the church to be about 100 years old. Please don't give this tip a nasty rating if the age is not accurate. Just let me know and I will correct the mistake.
