One of the simbols of Ljubljana is this first Slovenian Neboticnik (Skyscraper) Besides the Ljubljana Castle, it offers the most beautiful panoramic view of the city. It is 13-floors office and residental building, which was raised in 1933.

After walking north along Miklosiceva, we turned left at the square and headed west to the major street running parallel to it, Slovenska cesta and turned left to go see the Skyscraper, an attempt at an Art Deco building which was a popular building style in America in 1933 when it was built. In 1933 it was one of the tallest residential buildings in Europe. It was commissioned by the Slovenian Pension Fund to be used as offices and apartments.

Unfortunately the rooftop cafe and observation deck are closed, but still have a look inside at the marble lobby and the spiral staircase, my picture doesn't really do justice to the staircase.

    Neboticnik at Slovenska ulica

When you talk about Skyscraper in Ljubljana, it is self-evident which building you have in mind. It is building on this photo, situated in the centre of Ljubljana near Slovenska ulica. It was built in 1933 and was at that time the tallest building in Central Europe and Jugoslavia.

There used to be cafe and night bar on the top of Neboticnik, but they were closed few years ago. I'm not sure if they were re-opened.

This is our first skyscraper (only 70 m high), built in 1933. Believe it or not, but at that time this was the highest building in Europe. Nowdays it is just one of many buildings, however the view from the roof is worth visiting for.

    Ljubljana's skyscraper

On our hunt for a place to have breakfast Niksa and I left the old town and found this beautiful building in the new part of town. When it was built in 1933 by architect Vladimir Šubic it was the first skyscraper of the area, the highest residential building in Europe and the 9th highest building in Europe.

Well with only 70 metres of height it doesn't scrape the skies but it definitely is beautiful!
