As we left Novo Mesto and travelled towards Brezice, we happened to see a bright yellow Church in the middle of the fields. It was so bright!.... So different to home, so we drove along the roadway to have a look. Surrounding the Church was a beautifully kept cemetery, each grave had a little well cared for garden.I can't help thinking this is a...more
The main market was a interesting to walk around. Located here are many buildings that once belonged to rich merchants who built a special type of house with an arcaded stone front. In the second half of the 16th century, this Market was one of the most beautiful in the country. It is here, where you will find the Tourist information centre.more
In this area around Novo Mesto, we found some interesting Farms and Houses. We saw farm houses and buildings built in traditional style, and we saw the local people heading into town by Horse and cart.By the houses, were hay racks and crops growing, there didn't seem to be the machinery around that we have at home.Farming here, looks unhurried! I...more

After I had crossed the river bridge into the old part of Novo Mesto, I turned to the left and entered Breg street. What a picture this street, and another close by were. The homes were quite old, and all joined together, and painted in different colours. There were flower pots, and narrow lanes, I just thought these homes were rather quaint!more
The Church of the Chapter, is one of the oldest preserved architectural and cultural monuments in Novo Mesto. The present church has a bell tower, nave and altar and crypt. It was in 1493 that Emperor Frederick III founded the church collegiate chapter, and so the church became "the church of the Chapter."The Chapter had 13 Canons.A nice stone...more
The Church of St.. Leonard was built between 1478 & 1487, then was burnt to the ground in 1664.It has been rebuilt and added to over the centuries. This un-imposing monument in the main square, opposite the Town Hall, is the spot where they hanged partisans in autumn 1943. The Gothic pillar, is in my photo between the Trees. This is also a cultural monument of local importance. Those hanged were Francis Janc and Alojz Hacin.more
Not be able to read Slovenian, I wondered about these monuments. I have since found out, that I was in a Memorial complex dedicated to the fallen national heroes of Novo mesto and Dolenjske, at the site of the former "Ljubljana" gate. The complex has busts of Boris Kidric, and Franc Franc Rozman Potocarja-Lazar, and bronze sculpture, song and...more

As we had parked our car in a car-park on the opposite side of the River to the old Town, I walked across the Iron Bridge, known as Kandijski Bridge This Bridge was built in 1898, replacing an old wooden Bridge. It crosses the River Krka in one piece, with a 75 m long arc, it's a rare and oldest type of structure in Slovenia. The Bridge has been...more
The Krka river winds its way through Novo Mesto. This River is unusual, as it is the only Slovene river that forms tufa in its riverbed. Novo mesto was formed around one of the most distinctive bends of the River. Along the side, I found walkways, and I walked a little while, enjoyed the views of the old homes on the other side of the River. A lot...more

We were away on holidays for quite a while, and it come to the stage where both my husband and I needed hair-cuts.
We saw this Hairdresser shop and went in, sure enough, the lovely lady said she would be able to cut both our long locks!
She was nice, did a good job, and we were grateful to be able to have it done without an appointment.
Shop name is 'SIMPLE'
Favorite thing: This is a view at the old town core from the right bank of the river Krka, just a foot from Kandijski Bridge.
