No, this is not Pisa, Italy! Because of massive coal mine exploatation under ground the area of the lakes enlarges, the earth moves a bit, there were a few houses eaten by water (people were moved, of course, before that happened). The lakes in Velenje are therefore artificial, but also offering some new things, that werent possible in this area: boating, surfing and other activities. I just hope that nature will heal its wounds as fast as it can and that the lakes will be clean. Waste ashes is dumped in one of the lakes therefore we cannot speak of beautiful clean nature. Yet. But you can catch some interesting scenes wandering around the lakes.
You can decide to have a look at soccer game. Visit central stadium near the Velenje lake. A few years ago I was surprised by following sign there: tickets - adults price xx tolars (slovenian currency), women and children - free entrance. So are you a woman or are you an adult? You can usually watch training of our Rudar (Coalminer) for free - on the grass field nearby.
Well preformed music concerts. Sometimes I go to music school Fran Korun Kozeljski to listen to some awsome music. I'm not a member of it, but sometimes I have preformances there, too. The music is played by young artists, members of the school, and also invited artists, sometimes also known artists from abroad.
If you're a ski-jumping fan you just MUST visit Mislinja. It's a little village near Velenje with brand new and really fascinanting hills. Oh... they're so beautiful!!!
