The worst way to get to Velenje: train. It does not bring you to the city centre, its the end station and trains are very rare - extremely rare. Do take bus, car or anything else! Airplane is also possible (with limitations) - you land in airport Lajse near Velenje which is registered for landing of all tipes of sports planes.

Car or bus would be the best choice. The main bus station is in the very center. Avoid train if possible, it can only cause unnecessary frustration.
Everything is at walking distance.
