Favorite thing: The neo-Gothic styled church consecrated to Saint Martin, was built in 1905 on the site of the previous Gothic church dating from the 15th century. It is situated right bellow the steep cliff where the Castle of Bled rises.
Favorite thing: The picture I put in here shows the little island in the western part of the lake. This island has a church in the middle and is possible to reach it by boat in few minutes. This island is one of the symbols of Bled and gives to the whole area a romantic scenary.

The image of Bled with the castle, the lake and the island in the middle of the lake is, probably, the most well known Slovenian postcard.
I only saw the lake during the summer and it was great for a swim. Lena, a friend of mine has already been there in the winter and told me the frozen lake is a fantastic sight.
It's not uncommon to watch ducks swimming near people. Remember, respect the animals and its space. They've always lived there...
Now, time to descend down the Castle Bled.
Walking steeply down the hill was not that easy.
Being careful not to walk too fast hence pushing myself forward.
Well, you know how it feels like walking down a steep hill feels like.
Using your feet as brakes & stuffs....
The photo showing the steeply path down from the castle...
I went up the Bled Castle (Blejski Grad) after coming back from Vintgar Gorge - (photos on my Triglav National Park page).
It was just behind the Pension Bledec, the Youth Hostel where I was staying for 2 nights. So convenience !
First, had to climb the hill, quite steep.
Paid for the ticket, another steep entrance & I was at the top !
The photo is showing the entrance of the castle.
The Castle area is not big, so wander around it.
There's a restaurant also if you feel like having drinks or something to bite while enjoying the sceneries overlooking the lake.
Everywhere there were tourists so, I took this picture in a secluded area, capturing the plants or something...
Many people would want to be up at the Bled Castle for the sceneries anyway & I was no exception.
I could almost see all the areas around Bled & beyond.
Amazingly beautiful plateau & the mountains surround Bled.
Here, the photo of the restaurant on the Castle Bled.
If you feel hungry, have some drinks.
The photo was taken from the museum window.
Yes, there's a museum as well.
A large collection of armours & weapons, from the 16th to 18th century in the museum.
Carvings, jewelleries could also be seen, all from the excavations around this castle from the last few centuries.
The great thing being on the castle is the scenic views it could offer down below, to the lake & the surrounding areas around the lake.
I was there ad dawn, so everything was almost purplish, the sun was almost down the horizon...
Wander around the castle, take a peek of everything you see.
Although the compound of the castle belong to the Old Age but we have the feeling that almost everything has been altered to suit the tourists coming here.
Just my opinions from my own observations on the castle.
The photo shows an altar, maybe from the Old Age ?
The ticket is about 5 Euros. There's a museum where we can see the history traces Bled history.
From the Bronze Age to the mid 19th century is covered in here.
All the furnitures are not from that age unfortunately but we should get the diea of the living of the nobblemen living in this castle then.
The photo shows a well situated on the castle.
Bled Castle is 100 m above the lake, perched on a cliff.
The castle is built on 2 levels, dates back from 11th century.
Though what we could see around the castle now is from the 16th century.
For 800 years, it was the seat of the Bishops of Brixen, who regularly decorated the place.
Bled consists of five villages and they are located around the lake, most of the hotels can be found on the east back of the lake. At the north there is the castle on the rock 139 meters above the lake.
The picture shows the east bank of the lake and at the very left there can be seen the Bled castle.
As I mentioned in the first tip, the population of this area goes back til the early stone age. In the 7th century slaves came here. In 1004 emperor Heinrich II. handled out this land to the bishops of Brixen (today South Tyrol - Alto Adige) and they owned it for nearly 800 years.
In 1803 Bled went to Austria and in 1856 it became a spa-resort. It was known under the german name "Veldes". After the second world war it grow rapidely.
Highly recommended, friendly host, excellent (optional) dinners at the hotel, for example four...more

I did not stay here, though kept passing it, and seeing it all the time! High visibility, that's...more
