Radovljica is a charming town on the Sava River, not far from the place where the Sava Dolinka joins the Sava Bohinjka. The town was 1st mentioned in 1510, almost 2 centuries after its Linhart's square (1343).

In the centre of old town, there's the memorial to famous Slovenian dramatist Anton Tomazh Linhart, a drinking fountain built in the memory of the town's benefactor Josipina Hocevarjeva (Yosipina Hochevaryeva), and also many lovely old houses from the 16th century, some of which turned into museums.

Visit the unique Shivec's house at 33 Linhart's square with its gallery and register office and baroque Thurn Castle that houses the museum of apiculture and a memorial exhibition dedicated to Linhart.

    almost at the bee museum

    R. is 5 km from Bled by bus (via Lesce , and beyond) from the bus station in Bled and off at R. , buses every 1/2 hr. In R at the station you see a memorial park ahead to the left but ask for the bee museum and anyone will direct you. It lies in a street that goes beyond the park and the old multistyled church and campanile which broadens into a square with old interesting buildings (Linhartov trg). The museum is on the left (well marked). R. is a quiet uncluttered town and the bee museum is unique. The museum is about 4 blocks from the station. Peek in the church, it is worth a few minutes. Digest the simple facade too,

    death of the hunter

This museum is devoted to apiculture Slovenian style. Besides a fine exhibit of the evolution of the craft and its local practice, it has a unique collection of decorated front-boards from ancient hive boxes as well as carvings and other decos. The painted boards are an enchanting exhibition of naive art made even more interesting because they use few stereotypic visual sources and the paintings cover all sorts of religious, moralistic (as illustrated},historical, etc, themes. A good hour can be spent here. It is housed on the piano nobile of a 17C palazzo (entrance fee modest; closed Mon.,Jan, Feb, May-Oct 10-1;3-5; some closure N &D.
