The Venus Trail is turist Project which is held on 7 Slovene Castles :

    - Rihenberg : in Branik on Karst
    - Stanjel : on Karst
    - Skofja Loka
    - Predjama : at Postojna
    - Ljubljana
    - Mali Grad - at Kamnik
    - Kamen - in Begunje,Gorenjska

It is a Medieval journey and the idea came from Klagenfurt (Austria) University .In the 13.century the Styrian knight and minstrel Ulrich von Lichtenstein made a journey thru 52 towns in Europe which are now situated in Italy, Austria,Slovenia and Czech Republic.
On his way he had to fight his opponents.
This journey has been revived 4 years ago and in all of these cities there are medieval days in old squares and castles. Visitors have opportunity to see craftsmen at their work, fire eaters, swordsmen, singing of medieval songs and ballads. The most attractive is knights fight. Usually they fight for laddies.

The events take place on these dates:

    - Skofja Loka - last weekend in June
    - Predjama : last weekend in August
    - Ljubljana - last weekend of September or first weekend in October
    - Mali Grad - first weekend in June
    - Kamen - third weekend in June

Before or after visiting Skocjanske caves, do take a walk along the Educational route. It took us 45 minutes to complete the whole circle, and it was one lovely hike through forest and village.
Along pathway, there are plates with interesting information about nature and local customs. Some great views, and lovely atmosphere at the village Skocjan, with real people living their real lives.

Few cities have had the personal seal of a single artist so strongly impressed as Ljubljana, the birthplace of the architect Joze Plecnik

Ljubljana is one of few cities that has personal seal of a single artist - this is Joze Plecnik. His works are known all over the world. From the mid-twenties onwards the architect arranged a number of parks and squares in the town.

His style was very much influenced by his trips to Rome and Paris as a student where he had admired the ancient Classical and Renaissance Masters.

The monuments he realized in Ljubljana are:
    - St Michael's Church on the Marsh (Barje) (1936-39),
    - the National and University Library (1936-40)
    - the Church of St Francis in Siska (1925-30)
    - Ljubljana Stadium (1925-37),
    - the school in Upper Siska (1927-29)
    - Mutual Insurance Building (1929-30)
    - the Cemetery (known as ZALE) (1939-40)
    - the Market (1939-42).
Of his urban plans, stress should be laid on the design of the junction of Vegova Road with Congress Square (1929-1931), the banks of the Ljubljanica and Gradascica rivers with their bridges (1930-1939), the famous Three Bridges (around 1930), the Shoemaker's Bridge, the Tivoli Park, the surroundings of the Church of St Jernej in Siska (1936) and the castle entrenchments. Among the most prominent commissions of his later period is the restoration of Krizanke Monastery (1954-56).

Pekel pri Borovnici (Hell at Borovnica) is an ideal trip for those who would like to escape from hot Ljubljana and go to a cold place .

Pekel is the the most beautiful after heavy rains when river Borovniscica have a lot of water .You have to put on good walking shoes because the path is steepy and muddy.

There are 5 watterfalls in the valley.
The first one is the smallest , only 4 metres.
The second is 16 metres high .
Te third is the highest, 18 metres .The path becomes more and more steepy and you have to climb up on the ladder to reach the fourth watterfall , which is 17metres high.On the way to fifth watterfall you have to grap the rope on the wall. At the top you can turn round and go back or cross the creek and continue to Hudicev zob - Devil's' tooth where you will reach village Pokojisce. There is a view to surrounding hills , on the bright day even to
    Kamniske Alps.

Round trip from parking place to the fifth Waterfall lasts about 2 hours.

    Access:
Highway to Vrhnika, then turn left to Verd, thru Bistra to Borovnica then just follow sign for Pekel.

Among the romantic hill, that Dolenjska region is rich with, you can see the Turjak Castle. (In the centre of my photo)
You can reach there from Ljubljana, it's only about 25 km towards Kocevje.
The castle dated back to 15th century and is definitely worth to visit.
