Hike around the Skocjan "canyon" (a huge hole!)

by KristaB

Before or after visiting Skocjanske caves, do take a walk along the Educational route. It took us 45 minutes to complete the whole circle, and it was one lovely hike through forest and village.Along pathway, there are plates with interesting information about nature and local customs. Some great views, and lovely atmosphere at the village Skocjan, with real people living their real lives.

Traces from the past

by speedy77

Traces of the past - Both - small and monumental reminders of World War I. and the So?a (Isonzo) Front can be found along the marked tourist trails, off the beaten track or along the remnants of the old military trails. Bunkers and trenches fortified the peaks and valleys, numerous supply roads and trails were built and all kinds of unusual structures were erected that today, half-destroyed, represent mute witnesses of the past.

Skomarje in Stajerska

by dabidc

Slovenia is divided into provinces, the same as Canada. The Province of Stajerska was one of the two main places I visited on this trip. When at Slovenske Konjice I had accommodation for each night at a cabin in Skomarje. This was an excellent location for the views were outstanding. The disadvantage was the journey down the hill each morning. The road twisted and turned along and down narrow roads but we made it safely each time. Thanks to Tomi for the great driving and for showing me around.

BBQ Slovenian style.

by dabidc

The day did have had special significance to the residents of Slovenske Konjice, it was a celebration of the start of the grape picking season. There was great crowd in the main street and all seemed to be enjoying the festivities, that included meat from the BBQ. There was a princess riding around. All was convivial and all were enjoying themselves.
