Apicultural Museum

by KiNyA

The Apicultural Museum is placed in the baroque manor house in the old part of Radovljica. It displays an essential part of Slovenian history and culture in general - the rich tradition of beekeeping. This was the most intense in the 18th and 19th century and it represented a rather important rural branch. The most typical beehives are exhibited in the technical part of the museum. The life and the work of their indigenous honeybee called the Grey Bee of Carniola can be observed in the biological room. In summer the behaviour of the honeybee can be watched live, too. The artistic part houses the great chapter in the realm of Slovene folk culture - the illustrated beehive front boards.

Quaint Slovenian towns in the Julian Alps

As we drove through the Julian Alps, we came across a number of small Slovenian towns. The Austrian influence was quite visible, even down to the geraniums in the window boxes! We enjoyed stopping for an Austrian pastry and a cup of coffee.

On the way to Krim

Hiking to the crest of Krim is one of the nice way to spent a day, or even half a day. You can drive to the foot of the "Mountain" and then walk up. You can even drive to the top. If the weather is fine, you can enjoy the incredible view.On our way up, we passed this cute church.

Logarska Dolina.

by dabidc

Logarska Dolina ( Logarska Valley) is hidden away to the northwest of both Slovenske Konjice and Celje, it is a long narrow valley close to the border with Austriaand is about 70km from Celje.I cannot recall if it is a National Park, it does seem to have some resrictions about new buildings and access in general. There are walks along the valley, in the woods along side the road and once you get to a parking area the walk continues to Slap Rinka, otherwise known as Rinka Falls. The Falls and the rocks around the Falls are red and brown and are in direct contrast to the valley just left, which is a bright green. A quiet peaceful place to explore nature and believe you are in Switzerland.

A Ruined Monastery near Slovenske Konjice

Distance from Slovenske Konjice maybe 20 km. Very definitely Off the Beaten Path, but very interesting to wander the church buildings that were still left to view. I believe the location was south of Slovenske Konjice. The Monastery could be Spitalic

Idrija castle

Small town in western Slovenia is famose for it's old mesieval mines of liquid silver-mercury, lace and castle. The castle was built in the period from 1522-1533. Mines are closed today but there are mining museum and also underground part of it. You could go down in all cellars and mining corridors and see how mining techology was changing during the centuries. Really great experience... not for those who are claustrofobic!!!!
