Bring a small backpack, because at some point you will probably want to do at least a little bit of hiking.
Even in summer, bring a windbreaker and/or sweater, because the mountains are definitely cooler than Ljubljana and the coast.
Definitely bring a camera with a good zoom. There is plenty of great scenery to photograph.
Bring a swimsuit. Slovenia's coast is rugged, so there are no sand beaches and you will want to have some flip-flops or water shoes if you plan to go into the water. Leave a Comment

Overcast river scene by blint If you go at easter time remember to bring some warm water proof clothes as this is Slovenia's rainy season along with September and October. January is the coldest month with an average temp of -2. It reaches about 21şc in July. Leave a Comment

Zizek - the master by anaiis Study Abroad
You should at least read one of our authors. The most famous (but neglected regarding translation) are Ivan Cankar and France Prešeren. In a book The Day Tito Died you will find several of our writters. Reading A Ballad for Metka Krasovec by Tomaz Salamun, and The City and the Child by Ales Debeljak would also make your knowledge of our writters decent. There is also Evald Flisar - Tales of Wandering. I prefer Miha Mazzini (Guarding Hanna, King of the Rattling Spirits etc). We must not forget contemporary the greatest and the biggest of them all - our Slavoj Zizek: the giant. The phillosophy trademark. Interesting export product. A man to be proud of. For Zizek basics, read the book you see on the picture. Now, one of our famous slovenian authors (and female!) is also here, on virtual tourist. She has extremely good page (oh, yeah, you will definitely feel inferior to her! she is a genious), worth to pay a visit - see for yourself: http://www3.virtualtourist.com/m/.137577/1/?s=t Leave a Comment

take normal luggage, but plan more for outdoor stuff
Bring wet weather gear for rain, and warm clothing for winter.
Bring swimsuits, chairs, ice chest. YOu can fish here if you like. The trout are fabulous. I could see them swimming all over.
Hiking shoes would be very helpful, as would some water type shoes for the river. Leave a Comment

by Amadej Backpack with as little as possible inside. Be free! Move freely. Think freely. Alternatively: take many, many things with you, so many that you will be unable to lift them at all. This will help make your trip absolutely safe and you will not need to go far.
Don't take wet clothing with you. It is heavier than dry clothing. Don't take brand new shoes with you. New shoes do not want to walk and they will try to revenge on you. Take the left and the right one of the same size. Don't forget one of both at home. Regarding clothing take only the latest cry of fashion. It may help you if you get lost. Take an umbrella with you if you want sunny weather. Leave a Comment

by anaiis Here is something that might come in handy when travelling: low fat dried milk powder. Produced by Pomurske mlekarne (Pomurska Dairy) this product has a special mark - see bottom left - that means its low fat, does not contain holesterol and protects your heart and your general health. You can see this mark on some other Slovene products (low fat diary products, turkey low fat ham etc.). Anyway I recommend buying this milk if you like your morning coffe and tea with milk. Or just milk 'per se'. Leave a Comment

by anaiis Even if you dont plan to walk in Slovenia, there is a good possibility you will change your mind here. So take your trekking shoes with you. Well, if you dont, you can buy them here, I recommend www.planika.si , they make really high quality shoes. I have great shoes from them - previous pair lasted for years and many kilometers/miles and I still keep them, they are so nice, but newer models are less heavy and better, I suppose. Here is a picture of trekking shoes from our other high quality trade mark, www.alpina.si . Well, speaking of shoes, now you can visit also www.kopitarna-sevnica.si , but no trekking shoes here.
