Visiting the caves
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: If you plan on visiting this cave or any other one, you'll want to bring a sweater or jacket as it stays very cool year round. Also walking shoes with good treads, the cave floor can be moist and slippery and there is a fair amount of walking involved.
Photo Equipment: Our guide told us that no photos were allowed once we started the tour so I respected that, a few people snuck a couple of shots before getting reprimanded but don't bother lugging heavy equipment with you
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: The temperature in the cave remains yearlong between 8 and 10°C. Humidity is close to 100%. Dress consequently: warm but not airproof. If you have no suitable clothes, you can rent a cloak before the entrance.
When we went out, there was a family that was dressed with plastic raincoats. When they removed their raincoats, their clothes were soaked with condensed perspiration!
For the caves...
Luggage and bags: A ruck sack is appropriate - you certainly don't want more than that.
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: A pair of sturdy shoes is good. I wore trainers and they were fine.
Photo Equipment: You are not meant to take photos in the cave - but everybody did on the sly :)
Miscellaneous: The cave has a constant temperature of 10C. Humidity is 95% - a waterproof jacket is a good idea. Cloaks can be hired at the entrance for 500 SIT is you haven't got anything with you.
Luggage and bags: Small backpack if you really can't leave it in your room or car. However, it's not comfortable to sit on the train bench with a large bag, so....
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Expect moist and rather cold climate (around 8°C), so bring a jacket, or a vest or a pullover.... However, you can hire a waterproof jacket there for a few euro.
Shoes: Though it's not really slippery in the caves, there is water on the floor so I recommend sports shoes, or walking shoes, NOT SANDALS OR SOMETHING SIMILAR.
Photo Equipment: Although signs say that it is forbidden to take photos, everyone did it, so, if you really want, take your camera. Water drops from the ceiling so watch your equipment.
IMPORTANT: Do not to use flash when taking photos of Proteus Anguinus, because it is very sensitive to the light.
Warm clothes and waterproofs
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Take along warm and waterproof clothing as the caves are at a constant temperature of between 8° and 10° C regardless of the outside temperature and the humidity is 95%. Waterproof green cloaks are available to buy at the cave entrance.
