Lucifer, Velenje, Slovenia: Chocolate devils
If you want to get really down and dirty with the chocolate, this place provides its finest. This is nothing of an ordinary and I just keep on wondering how can that kind of place survive in a small town like Velenje, but I guess the answer is easy - once you've tried their products, you are hooked, doomed, they just put a spell on you. This is a chocolate, that can be compared with finest Belgium chocolate. Coming from the little town myself, I was able to find out that the owner attends regular education in the field, has been in Barcelona, Bordeaux and Argentina (where he actually wanted to open a chocolate boutique or cafeteria, but changed his mind and brought pleasure to all of people in Slovenia, able to visit Velenje). You are very wrong if you think I am a chocoholic myself: I am extremely picky with chocolate. I can stop eating ordinary milk chocolate ANY TIME. I like Godiva chocolate, for example. Well, Lucifer is something like that, except perhaps even slightly better. Spoil yourself with a bit of sparkling wine in addition and make sure you don't feel too dirty next morning ...
Favorite Dish: I dont really remember what I ordered. It was definitely something very dark, dark chocolate, not much sugar. And a glass of sparkling wine. I was accompanied by 3 women. We were all making indecent sounds when tasting. Luckily, it was a bit late in the evening and we were almost alone, apart from two or three couples, busy with each other.Related to:

After several years, I have re-visited this place (I used to recommend it). What a catastrophe! It is NOTHING it was years ago. Please, avoid if possible! My heart is broken. This used to be the best place I had been eating in. Now it turned out into ordinary tourist trap, overcrowded, with horrible food.
Sokol: Very good hunting meat.
A very good restaurant, not too espensive.
The Slovenian food is really good. You can taste wild boar, venison and some others hunting meats.
Also you can find others restaurants around the centre of the town.
Favorite Dish: Venison with mushrooms and roast potatoes.
On this trip we detected two...
On this trip we detected two good restaurants with good kitchen and reasonably priced according to the location and the dishes offered. The one is a Bosnian resturant in Ljubljana, named Sofra (you find it on Oja's page), the other is the leading restaurant in the centre of Kobarid at the Soca river at the Southern slope of the Julian Alps. Its name is Topli val.
Favorite Dish: 'Topli val' in Kobarid serves delicious trouts which they claim to be right from the Soca river (at least they were probably grown up in water from the Soca running through the basins where the trouts were fed). I liked the preparaton 'alla Triestina' with parsley and garlic. Igor liked their crayfish soup.

Restaurant in Otocec castle: Favorite local specialties
In castle Otocec restaurant you can try local dishes from Slovenia. Selection of food and drinks are nice and carefully prepared. Ambience is great, 'cause restaurant is settled in atrium of the castle. The Otocec castle is on an island in the Krka River which is great ambience. If you traveled to Ljubljana from Serbia or Croatia or on reverse, you cannot miss this restaurant to enjoy in food, drink and nature.
Favorite Dish: All local dishes (local prsut and cheeses), especially with desert at the end (gibanica and cheese cake).
pre-planincu: cheap but tasty
the food in this restaurant was fantastic, we sat down and when the waiter came we ordered meatballs, you order veg and potatoes sepratly so i ordered roast potatoes and my husband ordered chips when they came we had a huge shock as you were given a basket full of spuds each and the meatballs were 8 large meatballs the food is fantastic and the price great, for two lots meatballs and two lots of potatoes and a basket of fresh baked bread it cost 14 euros. which is £9.80 english. for two people.
the place is full of locals which says to me that if it is good enough for them then we will like it as it says a lot when the local people go piling in to a place to eat.

Hotel Restaurant Slatovicja - Ribcev Laz: Slatovicja
You can sit outside and eat either delicious sweet dishes (try the blueberry pancakes) or choose starters or main dishes from the rich menu. Beautiful view on Lake Bohinj, the stone bridge and the Sv. Janez church in Ribcev Laz, if you sit outside.Related to:

Piran - Trattoria Bife Ivo: Along the waterfront
Along the bathing area are loads of seafront restaurants and because Piran is a very popular place and because they all line the seafront, these places are not cheap. I came to this one as I think it was a cheaper option and had lunch but I can’t now remember what I ate! Obviously the menu is heavy on seafood such as Dorade, Bass, Sole (all for 8,000SIT), Lobster (14,000SIT!), Scampi (3,300SIT) and Squid (1,500SIT). They also do meat dishes such as escallops, rump steaks and mixed grills.
Koper - Skipper: Overlooking the marina
This is a nice restaurant overlooking the Marina where you get a lovely view of the boats and you can watch the sunset over the sea. The food here is a bit more upmarket than in other places in Koper. I had a nice scampi in pasta. Open:11am-10pm.
Koper - Restaurants by market: Fast Food
There are 3 or 4 restaurants in a row next to each other on the north side of the market along Hlavatyev Park just off Pristaniška ulica. They sell mostly pizza and other fast food such as breaded chicken, burgers, steaks etc and are very popular with families. The seats are comfortable and there are a/c fans in the ceiling to keep you cool. Service is a little on the poor side as you do have to wait a while. I came here for lunch and ordered a burger and fries but then no fries turned up with the burger and when they eventually did, I had finished my burger!
Restavracija Toti rotovž: Multi-national cuisine
This restaurant is housed in part of the Town Hall and also there are tables in the courtyard. The reason I came here was that I saw a sign in the Town Hall passageway for a Thai restaurant. But this restaurant not only serves Thai food but they also serve an international cuisine from a whole host of countries that include Slovenia, Ex Yugoslavia, Italy, Greece, Japan, Austria, Thailand and Mexico. I ordered the spicy Thai prawn soup but when it came it didn’t have any prawns in it! So back it went and of course I had to wait a bit longer. The bread that came with the soup was large and round and hot like it had just come out of the oven. Very nice indeed. The main course was a Thai green chicken curry which was very tasty. All-in-all not a bad meal despite having to send the soup back!
Open: 9am-midnight Mon-Sat Closed Sunday.
Hot Horse, Ljubljana: A first for me!
I've been to France where they eat horse but never fancied it and when I visited BTC City (large shopping district in eastern Ljubljana) one of the places to eat was this - Hot Horse. So I thought, why not give it a try! And I did and enjoyed it! The meat is quite like a steak and comes in a large burger bun with different sauces and salads just like any other burger. They do set menus but I was told that these are for students only.

Gostilna Sokol, Ljubljana: Local traditions
The inside of this restaurant looks very Bavarian/Alpine and is popular with both locals and tourists alike (just look at the number of reviews on VT!). With this in mind I thought I'd give it a try and I had the mushroom soup for a starter which arrived very quickly in a roll with a lid. It was actually quite difficult to eat as you wanted to eat the roll at the same time as eating the soup and you end up making a hole in the side so the soup runs out! Anyway, it was different and fun at the same time. Then I had the Peasants feast which was very difficult to eat all of it after the soup as the meats - of which there's 4: black pudding, pork steak, ham and veal sausage are very filling plus there's also buckwheat, boiled corn and turnips. Take my advice and wash it all down with the house beer.
