Abecedarium: Best salads in town
by CCW
This cafe in the center of Ljubljana occupies the former home of the 16th-century humanist Primoz Trubar, author of the first printed book in Slovene (Catechismus et Abecedarium). The rooms are rather small but comfortable, with attractive wood paneling and light-colored plaster walls, and there's an outside dining area too. It's primarily a coffeehouse and bar, but it offers a selection of hot dishes, soups, and salads, so it's a popular lunch spot for both locals and tourists.
The Slovenes are fond of salads, and these were the best I found in Ljubljana: large, full of goodies (not just a bowl of lettuce with a couple of carrot shreds on top), and they didn't overdo the dressing -- it was light and tasty and didn't make the salad soggy. The soups are very good too, and the bread (crusty wheat) is absolutely wonderful. I ate here twice during my stay in the city, and had a great meal...
