In Sezana proper we found the St. Martin parish church which dates back to 1889. It happened to be open so we could take a glance inside too. The church tower stands totally separate from the main church body. The tower looked actually older which could well be as the present church is built on a much older church on the same site.

The town of Sezana is rather spread out and consists of various villages around the area. One of those is the famous Lipica where the stud of the Lipizzan horses is located which attracts many visitors.
The stud was founded in 1580 by the Austrians.
Please note that we didn't get to visit here as we were travelling by public transport.

The idea was to continue our journey back to Trieste by bus. We already knew that there probably wouldn’t be one to take us, but still we checked out the station which is located just down the short road from the railway station. There only seem to be 3 daily buses to Trieste with the last one at 14.10. See timetable on picture no. 2.
The bus station is quite modern and features a tourist office which was already closed.
Opening times of the tourist office:
Monday – Friday 8.00 – 16.00 (lunch break 11.30 – 12.00)
Saturday 9.00 – 17.00 (lunch break 12.00 – 12.30)
Sunday/holidays 9.00 – 14.00

We took the train from Nova Gorica to Sezana as it just about happened to arrive in Nova Gorica. The journey took us through some lovely landscape dotted with a few villages. It took 1 hour. BTW, there are only 2 trains per day. One is at 6.12 am and the one we took at 14.10. The one way normal fare was Euro 3.25.
The station in Sezana dates back to 1857 when it was opened unter the Austrian Empire. It has several platforms and we saw a train from Ljubljana. The station building itself is pretty bare and I didn’t see any facilites as such. Unfortunately there are no more passenger trains across the border to Trieste
As you leave the station there is a hotel on the left with a casino.
