Excellent resort for beginners! The small local ski hill is the Strazna. More advanced local ski areas are within 10-15 km- e.g Vogel)
Why not try snow shoe walking? Very enjoyable for all ages: small children can hire a toboggan.

    Maribor - Fontana Spa

by Willettsworld Written Oct 22, 2006

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

If you stay at the Orel Hotel then you can get in to this thermal spa water complex for free, which is what I did! The spa complex was the second such complex I visited whilst staying in Slovenia after visiting Atlantis in Ljubljana and I have to say that I like them a lot and wish they were here in my country. This complex is located about a 10 minute bus trip to the west of the city and features a number of indoor and outdoor pools with more than 160 massage jets, whirlpools and water effects. The water temperature is between 33 and 37 degrees Celsius.

Open: 9am-10pm. Admission: Free if staying at Orel Hotel.

    Ljubljana - Atlantis Water Park

by Willettsworld Written Oct 15, 2006

The Atlantis Water Park is located at the BTC City shopping area in the east of the city. The park features three thematic areas - Adventure World, Thermal Temple and Sauna Land. Altogether there are some 14 pools (6 large, 6 special-purpose and 2 children’s pools) and 12 saunas.

Adventure World was the first area I visited. It features a large indoor wave pool, 2 slides that are approx 135m long and can either be slid down on rubber rings or with nothing at all, a "slow river" through an underground cave and a large outside pool with geysers, water cascades and massage jets. There is also a kids area.

The next area I visited was my favourite - Thermal Temple. This area features an indoor and outdoor pool which are both connected. The indoor pool is heated to 32°C and features two waterfalls, two geysers and eight massaging seats or beds. The outdoor pool is heated to 30°C and features three geysers and two water jets.

I highly recommend coming here in the evening after visiting/shopping at BTC City and just relax and have fun. Open: Daily between 9am and 11pm 20% discount after 8pm.

    Cycling the Vrsic Pass

by birvine Written Jul 18, 2004

From Kranjska Gora across the pass to Lepena is an unforgettable ride. Tough yes, there was physical pain from the sheer steepness of the ride, the views were spectacular.

Equipment: I was pulling a fairly heavily-loaded BOB trailer, (check them out), along with quite a bit of gear in rear panniers. I used primarily my lowest gear which was in the range of a 35 or 40 inch gear. Nonetheless it was tough. Mind you, by this point I was in fairly decent shape having ridden from Istanbul.

Might I suggest that if you are considering riding the pass that you ensure your brakes are in absolutely top form. The descent over the north side was a screaming descent to say the least. Extremely steep, so much so that my hand seemed to turn into a claw I was clenching the brakes so hard. I became worried about the heat buildup from the constant braking so I would stop on each switch-back to get stream water and pour it onto the rims to cool them down, for fear of blowing off the tire at these high speeds. I have no experience with them, but perhaps disk brakes might be superior to regular pad brakes.
