Predjama castle

by solopes

Close to Postojna, this "impossible" castle is located at the entrance of a wide cave. Protected by the mountain, it was initially built in the 13Th century, and served as shelter to several noble families until being destroyed in 1511. A second building didn't resist an earthquake, and the actual was built in 1570 in Renaissance style. It is served by a complex of caves, linking to Postojna, and with lots of history concerning supplying the castle under sieges.

Kranj

by solopes

I skipped Kranj. Having read about the area, and only with time to visit one of two (Kranj and Skofja Loka) I choose the second. I know that Kranj is a great industrial city, and its center is nice, but... maybe next time.

Tip Photo
Skofia Loka

by solopes

A small city with lots of personality. The centre of the Skofia Loka, though here and there demanding maintenance, is well preserved, and evidences well the past. Short distances make the visit easy and without any boring area.

Tip Photo
Portoroz

by solopes

I had great expectations about this beach, mentioned as the best of Slovenia.Well, I was somewhat disappointed - the beach is mainly artificial. Not ugly, not bad, well equiped, good restaurants, but...I had a quick bath on a tapestry of algae, a good dinner, and a good night sleep in Portoroz. It was all.

Koper

by solopes

Forced to choose between Koper and Piran, due to time limitations, I preferred Piran. However, I still got some minutes to a very quick and superficial passage in Koper, that confirming that I made the right choice, allowed a few notes justifying a small page.

Tip Photo
Piran

by solopes

Occupying the tip of a peninsula, this small city keeps the charm of the ancient days, with narrow streets flanked by old houses and monuments. Without a real beach, Piran is surrounded by several artificial bathing areas, rounding a small marina. Nice place that I describe in my Piran page.

Skocjan caves

by solopes

UNESCO World Heritage this caves are a awesome travel in one underground canyon. They impress for its size, with the river running dozens of meters below you, as you walk in a narrow path in the rocky flanks of the river, with the ceiling of the cave also far from your head. It's dark, with the artificial illumination strategically displayed and dimmed, and the few usual formation (stalactites and stalagmites) not impressive. As we walk feeling smaller and helpless step after step, the light at the end of the tunnel, in the "dolina", acquires a sense of hope returning to human dimension and life. The "dolina" is a wide hole, with a few small waterfalls and... green... splendid green, "pushing" you up to the surface and daylight. More than seeing, Skocjan caves are something to feel, and only feeling it you may clearly understand my words

Tip Photo
Postojna

by solopes

World Heritage to UNESCO, this caves were one of our top priorities and they confirmed the expectations. Postojna impresses for its grandiosity, and the long ride in a small train a freezing but wonderful sensation. Pictures are forbidden, but I think that only a 123 years old Spanish lady did respect the polite and discreet recommendations.

Villages

by solopes

Right upon our arrival we were caught by the beauty of the villages in Triglav area. Cesnica, Ribcev Laz, and mainly Srednia Vas were a full surprise. We had our first glimpse by night, when the GPS failed and we lost ourselves near the hotel, but we decided to return by daylight to confirm the good sensation in the dark. Plenty of flowers everywhere, and... Fernanda taking the camera from my hands and click...click...click...Come on... we still have Slovenia to see!

Tip Photo
Lake Bohinj

by solopes

Rivalling with Bled, this beautiful lake is more natural, and less explored. The many sensations collected in the area are related in several pages - Ribcev Laz were we slept, but also Bohinjska Bistrica, and the surprising Sredja vas
