Ljubljana

by Airpunk

The most Obvious destination to visit is Ljubljana. The capital of Slovenia has around 270 000 inhabitants which makes it one of the smaller european capitals. Sound boring? Forget it! Ljubljana is a city full of freindly young people with many bars and cafés so that it will surely not get boring. Beside that, it offers many sights, such as the castle, many nice squares and buildings and a lot of other interesting places. Sure, it's not London, Paris or Amsterdam, but definitively worth a visit.I used Ljubljana as a base. That means that I booked my hostel there and explored the rest of the country. The means of transports (trains and buses) are good out of Ljubljana, so that you might take that option as well. To get more information about Ljubljana, echk out my tips on my Ljubljana page.

Skocjanska Jama

by viddra

Skocjanska Jama (Skocjan's Cave) is another famous cave in Slovenia. It's on UNESCO's list of protected areas. The cave's 1400m long and 150m deep. It's in fact the underground canyon of the Reka River.

Kranj

by viddra

Kranj's located in the central part of Gorenjska, Slovenia's northwestern region at the foot of the Alps. It's called the City of Preseren because Slovenia's greatest poet, Dr. France Preseren (1800-1849), lived, worked and died here.More on my Kranj Page.

Bled

The church on the island, the old castle, mysterious gorges and waterfalls, endless possibilities for sport and recreation, and much more, make Bled a real jewel among the Alpine resorts.More on my Bled Page.

Bled

I believe this is a must if you travel to Slovenia. I loved the church on the island and the only way to get there is a small rowboat with you're own personal rower. It is said that if you ring the church bell that it will bring you marriage good luck.

Highways

by Dano123

I was amazed at the quality of their road system. Very easy to follow signs and everyone knows how to drive here. They actually pull over to the right lane if you're traveling faster then they are. Wow, not used to that.

Bohinj Lake (Jezero)

by ant1606

The lower corner of Triglav National Park hosts the Bohinj lake, which is larger than the more popular one in Bled.Nice mountain environment despite the modest elevation. Plenty of possibilities for activity in this area. The road from Celezniki to Bohinjska Bistrica was mostly unpaved, for about 20 Km, but any street vehicle should be able to go through it without problems even with heavy rain. Don't miss the Savica Falls (Slap).

Take a train trip

by blint

Travelling through Slovenia to Croatia at Christmas you see some amazing views. All the following photos were taken from the moving train as we crossed the country. I highly recommend taking a train journey not just for the interesting places you can go but for the things you can see on the way.I was travelling from Venice Italy to Zagreb. The train left at 9 in the morning stopping at Ljubljana(Slovenija), Zagreb(Hrvatska) and then on to Budapest(Magyar). On the way there it was run by TrenItalia where you sat in compartments. If travelling overnight the seats move down to make a type of bed. On the way back from Zagreb we travelled overnight to Italy crossing Slovenija. We caught the last train at 23:22, unfortunately his time it was not TrenItalia, but an Hungarian train where you sat in seats arranged into fours which didn't move down much. The most annoying thing was that they...

Postojnska Jama

Probably the most popular cave in Europe was 1st mentioned in 1213. It consists of 20km of wondrously sculpted galleries, chambers and halls.Besides many beautiful cave ornaments, you can see the largest known cave animal here-the human fish (Proteus anguinus). The cave's open all year round. Visits last 1hr and a half , and the temperature inside the cave's constant 10°C.
