Fashion and Style in Ljubljana

by VJSmith

Sommertime people watching in Ljubljana doesnt get much better. These cats know how to dress, and as a rule, Slovenians seem to be gorgeous. Sidewalk cafes with outdoor seating line the river providing perfect viewing.Shopping in Ljubljana is also pretty darn good, although not as cheap as one would hope.

Wonderland in Bled

by VJSmith

Bled is a town about 90 minutes from Ljubjana in the foothills of the Julian Alps. The highlight is a crystal clear green glacial lake with a small island in the middle. A church sits on the island and you can row there in a small boat and try to ring the bell for good luck. Note to self - swinging on the rope wont make the bell ring, it´s all about timing.

Castle is a former property of the Habsburg family, and later of the Lambergs, of whom Ziga Lamberg, the first bishop of Ljubljana, and his brother, the Knight Gašper Lamberg, celebrated in the verses of a folk song for his great courage, are best known. The last reconstruction of the castle took place after the big earthquake in 1511.

Vintgar gorge

by elgin99

The River Radovna cut a 1.6 km gorge, called Vintgar, between Hom and Boršt. The Vintgar gorge is surrounded by steep slopes, densely forested with beech and embellished by the waterfalls, pools and rapids of the river. Echoes of the swiftly flowing water fill the narrow gorge, which nowadays may be enjoyed by walking one of the paths, the numerous bridges and the Žumer galleries. Every visitor who walks to the end of the gorge is rewarded by the sight of the 16 m high Šum waterfall. The Vintgar gorge has been included in the list of most important Slovenian sights.

Robber-barons impressive Castle Predjama

by elgin99

Predjama Castle is one of the most picturesque buildings in Slovenia. The castle hangs dramatically in the middle of a 123 ms high cliff, unconquered and uncompromising. Although the current building dates from the end of the 16th century, a castle has stood on this site since the year 1201. Predjama castle was the ideal stronghold for a wilful, rebellious knight just such a romantic legend survives: the story of the robber baron Erazem. The castle is well worth a visit, like it´s worth visiting the underworld below the castle - an adventure in itself. It is an extensive system of underground passageways with various hidden exits and a supply of running water. An almost impregnable fortress. The webside shows interactive panoramic pictures from different points of the castle (Flash).
