Bled

by pure1942

Bled is becoming more and more touristy but this is understandable as such a beautiful place is bound to remain a hidden gem for long. The town of Bled is located northwest of Ljubljana (about 45 by train) and is one of the most beautiful places i have ever visited. The town itself is nothing exciting but the reason people come to the area is for the beautiful lake, with island church, overhanging cliff-top castle and Julian Alps backdrop. The place is quiet simply breathtaking and well worth visiting for nothing more than the stunning views and scenery.

Ljubljana

by pure1942

Ljubljana is the capital of Slovenia and with a population of just over 250,000 people is one of Europe's smallest capitals. However, for a city so small in size it has so much to offer from architecture to a great nightlife.Ljubljana has an small town atmosphere witha compact and contained centre and friendly, inviting feel. The name 'ljubljana' derives from the Slovene word 'ljubljena' whihc mmeans beloved and it is hard not to fall in love with this beautiful city. Cafe's and bars with outdoor heating and seating fill the cobblestones squares and streets alongside the river Ljubljanica. The twons main squares are Presernov Trg and Mestni Trg and are the hub of the city. The city's unique Triple Bridge links the two squares are overooked by Ljubljana Castle whihc is perched on the hill overlooking the city. Other sights in the city include, Tivoli Park and Mansion, The Church of St....

Postona cave (Postojnska jama)

by Tuna_ank

I saw many caves in Turkey and in Mallorca, it was the biggest one(totaly 20km). And it was very easy to walk in it. There is a train at the beginning and at the end since 1872.(Train is 3500 m) It is very fast and walls very close. After than, you follow guide inside the cave around 2kms., 90 minutes. The temperature is always same in caves all year. It is a bit cold. It is better to wear a coat. There are trains and guided tours every hour between May and September 9:00-18:00Between October and April , every 2hours 10:00-16:00

The Highlights of Slovenia:

by blint

Ljubljana: The lovely capital 'city,' situated more or less in the centre of Slovenia.Bled lake: The stunning emerald green lake and castle surrounded by the Julian Alps and the Karavanke range which makes up the border with Austria. Bled is in the north west of Slovenia, very close to the border with Austria.Piran (Pirano in Italian): The prettiest of Slovenia's small coastal towns. Situated on a peninsula with its Venetian architecture, Piran is the number one summer destination. It's name comes from the Greek word for fire (Pyr); this is because fires where lit right at the tip of the peninsula to guide the ships too Koper (or Aegida as it was called then). Being so close to Italy it has changed hands many times between the two countries and therefore has a very strong Italian Influence. It is also very close to the border with Croatia if you fancy popping down out of Europe.Koper: A...

Lake Bohinj

by MichaelFalk1969

This idyllic lake is located in Triglav National Park, with a fantastic mountain scenery as a background. A hiking path leads all around the lake (roughly 3 hours); many other hiking paths through the Triglav Park start near Lake Bohinj (Savica Waterfall, Valley of the seven lakes etc.). At the western tip of the lake lies the little hamlet of Ukanc; at the eastern tip, the small village Ribcev Laz. A tip for photographers: The best place to take photographs in the morning is the little pier on the southern lakeshore, opposite the church Sveti Duh. The light is just perfect then.

Hiking Path: Planina Vogar

by MichaelFalk1969

One of the most beautiful hiking paths in the Triglav National Park is the hike to the Planina Vogar (Vogar high plain) near Stara Fuzina. From Stara Fuzina, follow the road signs "Vogar" until you reach the parking lot. Leave your car there, walk up the slope past the sheep enclosure on the right until you reach the asphalt road. Follow this road roughly 5 to 10 minutes, until you read the red sign "Planina Vogar". From there, the hiking path is well-marked (red/white circle). Shortly after you reach the "Kosijev Dom" hut, you can either turn left (to the Prsivec summit) or take the middle way (to the Vodicni summit) or right to the jezero na planina (rough translation "high plain by the lake"). Beautiful views! Rather easy and do-able for people with average fitness, but even in spring there can still be snow on the higher slopes. This hiking path is a rather easy one - the return trip...

Triglav Track

by omerbern

If you're an experienced hiker or even if not,as long as you are in a good shape, the track to mount Triglav is a must. You need to buy a 1:25000 map and have minimum navigation skills but apart from that it's not that complicated. We were a group of 6 with no real experience and navigated quite easily because of the very clear trial marks. The only place where it's very confusing is the 2 first hours from Stara Fuzina to voje valley where we lost our way-so pay attention and don't get off the trail. There are many routes to the top but we took the route from Stara Fuzina to the top and climbed down through 7 triglav lakes. It took us 2 full days but the seconed day took us much longer and i recommend to start it in about 6:00 AM. You must climb the mountain with good mountain shoes(not snickers!) and only in good weather! it can get really dangerous up there in bad weather. Some people...

Cool train ride from Bled through Julian Alps

by sabrepoint

We stayed at Bled for a few days and loved it. But here's something you could have a go at: Check out timetable and en-route stations at tourist shop in Bled and on a nice day, find Lake Bled train station (bit hard to find and poorly signposted - about 300 m west of Lake Bled and up a hill), buy a ticket from the man and hop on the train and head South towards Nova Gorica on the Italian Border.Great ride through the little Julian Alps villages, and train goes slowly (well our one did - an old diesel engine with gearbox so is really quite a novelty!). Some guys took their bikes on the train and hopped off somewhere along the route, spent a couple of hours riding in the country and caught train back to Bled - well I presume they got back OK, as we went all the way into Italy [see my other tip re a frustrating border crossing!].Great day's outing for families and tourist train buffs!

Hiking Path: Valley of the Seven Lakes

by MichaelFalk1969

Starting point of the hike is either the Koca pri Savici (near the Savica falls). Once you reach the valley, the hiking is easier and there is a chain of mountain lakes and beautiful flower-filled meadows. This is a full day - hike with overnight stay in one of the huts in the valley, so reserve ahead. The huts are usually open from June to September. In my opinion, a more difficult hike: Until you reach the valley, it goes steep up all the way. Good fitness and stout mountain/hiking boots are a must. Some stretches are secured by iron-links.
